Hardware News   Hardware News : New offer for Sam440 Flex systems
   posted by afxgroup on 29-Sep-2012 14:25:37 (3319 reads)
Bassano del Grappa, 29-Sept-2012,

At ACube Systems we love to do offers as soon as we can. While we wait for the new batch of - currently out of stock - Sam460 to be assembled, for the first 10 Flex Core systems purchased we offer a fully licensed copy AmigaOS 4.1. This is a more than 100 Euros/USD discount!

It's already Christmas in Amiga Land. Don't miss this opportunity! http://www.acube-systems.biz/

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

@afxgroup

I hope the next Sam board your company develops has a HUGE FPGA on it so that you can incorporate a complete minimig into the design.

Why increase the complexity of the board? It just increases the cost & potentially the failure rate, for something which many people might not even use. Best to keep it simple & low cost. IMHO it would make more sense to put an FPGA on a PCI-Express card. You could then also fit it to existing Sam460s & X1000s too, meaning a bigger potential market...

Yes, but we need CPUs with more speed to multimedia use.

It's feasible.

Sam machine have an expansion connector to add another FPGA. you can put this on a PCI slot, if you want.

About FPGA:
-to me it seems it was initially added to attract some industry customer(s)
-when FPGA is connected to the localbus of PPC440 or PPC460, it does not reserve any PCI slot
-but with a simplified redesign SAM460 kind of HW should become much cheaper
-another nice option would be to have some superb feature implemented via the FPGA, like ACubeUP library to use FPGA to accelerate some things (mpeg etc.) or another CPU on a card that can be plugged to the FPGA expansion connector and again with ACubeUP utilize it (with bridge chip already on board of SAM, such accelerator should not be too pricey). etc etc
