| Sorry for the stupid question, but what exactly is the "Amiupdate SDK server", and how would one get AmiUpdate to use it?
P.S. Is the server running from your flat?!? Or was it just the problem happened to coincide with your move? Last edited by ChrisH on 08-Oct-2012 at 08:12 PM.

| Well, not quite. You have to write autoinstall scripts as well, but that is easy. Last edited by spotUP on 08-Oct-2012 at 10:21 PM.

| Well give me some archive (or os4depot archive) I can add/send to you with an AutoInstall script and in a couple of days I'll tell you if I'm able to help you.

| ChrisH yes it runs from my private server in my flat. AmiUpdate should ask you if you have the sdk installed i think, if not you can add it manually. I don't have the url handy atm though, maybe someone can fill me in? _________________ AOS4 Betatester, Peg2, G4@1ghz, Radeon 9250 256mb, 1gb RAM.

| Take a look at the structure and script in one of the archives from the sdk server and try to replicate it with some library that ain't in the db yet.
Here is all the archives in the db: http://ftp.uprough.net/AmiUpdate/ Last edited by spotUP on 08-Oct-2012 at 10:30 PM.

| BTW is there an AutoInstall HOWTO or alike (or a "virtual" autoinstall mode to check if everything is OK). Already added AutoInstall script to libmpg123.lha Seems quite easy |

| unfortunately not.. i test them when i add them to the db. ah, well you could do "execute autoinstall" in shell to run the script and see that the script works as it should. Last edited by spotUP on 09-Oct-2012 at 12:02 AM.

| Also I wanted to ask: >but what exactly is the "Amiupdate SDK server"
And the question remains unanswered I think.
I know AmiUpdate and that i uses server. I know what SDK is.
But AmiUpdate SKD server sounds weird? What's it's function?
It helps in creation + testing of AmiUpdate scripts? (so that devs do not mess up the real thing?) _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer?

I assume you mean when I first installed AmiUpdate? I don't remember such a question, nor does it's install log show such a question.

Was "ftp.uprough.net/AmiUpdate/" supposed to be what I add to AmiUpdate? It didn't offer to update my OS4 SDK at least.

I'm pretty sure that Simon does advises AGAINST doing that, because AmiUpdate does some things which a simple Execute does not. Instead you should use the "TestAutoInstall" command (which is apparently available from AmiUpdate's website).Last edited by ChrisH on 09-Oct-2012 at 09:36 AM.

| Not server related, but one thing I noticed the other day : I read the news for a newer version release of a certain program, so I got it directly from OS4Depot ( saved in ram: the .lha archive ). I checked with AmiUpdate and it appeared on the list to be updated. I clicked on update, but everything stalled there.
Maybe the already existing .lha file in ram prevented the update? _________________ Ordell Robbie: Is she dead, yes or no? Louis: Pretty much.

| Chrish it's a database of third party libs , libjpeg, sdl etc. And no, ftp.uprough.net/AmiUpdate is the direct url where i store the archives.
Instead add http://www.amiupdate.net/SdkServer to your server list in amiupdate et voila! Last edited by spotUP on 09-Oct-2012 at 12:03 PM. Last edited by spotUP on 09-Oct-2012 at 12:03 PM.

| Why they don't upload the recent .cd files for other people to translate them into their native language? Prefs catalog file especially is way outdated. _________________

I just used AmiUpdate successfully (since this summer) by adding your SdkServer to the server list.
There are many questions that come to mind about AmiUpdate. Many of them might belong in the AmiUpdate bugTracker, but 3 things make me hesitate:
1) I have not figured out how to show all of the bugs. The search field cannot be left blank, but how should I know what to put there? I got 1 result when I put #? and I got fewer than 10 when I put * (the one from #? was not there). Neither list's descriptive portion revealed either #? nor *. I have to guess that those strings #? and * must appear within the full view of the bugs themselves. Thus, I cannot get a context of when a "new issue" is inappropriate because it is outside the scope of the bugtracker's intention.
2) The "help" on the website that we are sent to is highly detailed in some places, which I appreciate very much, but other parts are obviously out of date and/or terse in nature... seemingly rushed. The cause of this bipolar presentation can have many causes, so I do not care to speculate. To whom should I make suggestions/corrections/requests if not in the bugtracker?
3) Your replies in this thread and the fact it was helpful enough for me to USE AmiUpdate after several months of no-use, show your commitment to AmiUpdate. When AmiUpdate ran it provided a new version from here in November. Surely it was created by Simon Archer, no?
Your knowledge of the technical side of AmiUpdate is nearly non-existant. I just cannot help asking: What is your association with Mr. Archer? Why is SdkServer being used instead of the default? Why is the website inconsistent? Who is caring for that?
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = AmiUpdate is important to me, so I have an interest that it thrive. _________________ ..effects of civilization upon...nature, the growing gap between what education was supposed to accomplish and what it consisted of, the national debt and...high taxes, the problem of the excess cost of medical care -- Philip Wylie, 1951
