Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : MUI Royale 1.0 for Hollywood released
posted by softwarefailure on 1-Jan-2013 12:12:34 (3984 reads)
This is it! Airsoft Softwair has saved their greatest firework for New Year's Day! MUI Royale is a plugin for Hollywood that finally allows you to easily create MUI GUIs with Hollywood. MUI Royale supports over 40 MUI classes including popular third-party classes like TextEditor.mcc and TheBar.mcc. Creating and managing menustrips is also fully supported. The plugin sets new standards concerning the ease of use because the GUI layout can be conveniently defined using an XML file that is converted into a MUI GUI by MUI Royale on the fly. GUI design has never been so easy! Of course, new features of MUI 3.9 (AmigaOS 4) and MUI 4.0 (MorphOS) are also supported.

Click READ MORE for more details:

The highlight of MUI Royale, however, is certainly its inbuilt Hollywood MUI class. This class allows dynamic embedding of complete Hollywood displays into MUI GUIs which can be used to combine the best of both worlds - MUI's proven GUI skills and Hollywood's unequalled multimedia capabilities - into one powerful application, limited by the scope of your creativity only.

MUI Royale requires at least Hollywood 5.2 and is provided free of charge for all users of Hollywood. It is available for AmigaOS 3 (m68k), AmigaOS 4 (PPC), MorphOS (PPC), and AROS (i386). The package comes with almost 20 example scripts, many of which are direct ports from the MUI 3.8 SDK by Stefan Stuntz, but there are also original developments like demonstrations of how to create a video player using the combined power of Hollywood and MUI. On top of that MUI Royale comes with extensive documentation as a 280 page PDF file which is also available in the HTML, AmigaGuide, and CHM formats thanks to the Hollywood documentation system.

All this makes MUI Royale the truly royal MUI experience, carefully crafted for you Kings and Queens of MUI! (screenshots: shot1.png shot2.png shot3.png)

Just finished printing off the hefty 278 page manual.

Does it allow for subclassing standard classes inside application?

I ordered 5.2 ages ago as soon as it was released. Hollywood Designer, I am stuck on version 3, however 3 is still pretty impressive.

Neat! Will have to check this out, really enjoyed my time with Hollywood so far, still have a lot to learn, but I do really appreciate the good detailed documentation.

I'm glad I got it before it was taken off sale, it was a tough call to weather or not update Designer 3 to 4, but thanks to some more free updates and adorns I think it was worth it. I just hope this program continues to improve, it is one of the gems on the Amiga platform.

That is why I try to buy Amiga items when they first come out, because there is no telling when they will sell out, or not be available anymore for what ever reason(s). I just ordered an ARM controller board for the MiniMig, which I have not built, but have had the PCB and 95% of the parts I need to assemble it for the past several years. I bought a case for it when it was available, and now have bought the ARM board, because it is available. If you wait to purchase any Amiga items, I strongly suggest you buy them as soon as they become available, because you don't know if/when they will be available again, after they sell out. Software does not usually become unavailable as quickly as hardware, but you can never predict when something will no longer be available. Andreas did warn everyone almost a month in advance, that Hollywood would no longer be available for sale, or selling updates, so that is when you should have purchased it.

I guess it must be a legal problem with the addition of Android support, since shortly after that release came out the selling of Hollywood products stopped. If it were not a legal problem, we probably would have had some kind of answer as to why he had to stop selling all of the Hollywood products. The only other problem I can think of that might fit the situation and evidence, is a problem with the name "Hollywood", since he has had to stop selling "ALL" of the Hollywood products.

I just hope that he can work out what ever the problem(s) is/are, so he can again resume selling all of the Hollywood products, as I consider them some of the best software products available for the Amiga inspired platforms, including the original Amiga computers, that are currently still in development.

@djrikki,

Nice! I always like to have a printed manual, instead of reading manuals on a computer screen, but it is a waste of paper and ink, and I should get used to reading stuff on the computer instead. I will think about it for a while before I decide to print the manual, or not.

My first Hollywood Royale based app on OS4Depot (ShowGeo).
The gui stuff was taken two hours because I had to learn it from the guide and from the examples.

So it is not just powerful, it is very productive too.

Congratulations, and big thanks Andreas!

Good thing, but no MUI on x86 platform, so this breaks the compatibility;)
