Shouldn't a good file browser be part of the OS?

@Severin,

There are screenshots & video to learn a bit more about Dir Me Up.

"Multi selection needs to be added, eg. clicking on one line doesn't clear all previously selected lines which is a pc/mac thing I REALLY HATE."
=> Don't understand what you mean : there is multi-selection. If you click on one line, it clears the previously selected line(s). If you click with SHIFT key down, it adds to selection.

IMHO, a list of devices is not needed as it isn't readable.

Feel free to send a screenshot and DSI to my mailbox.

@Deniil715,

Don(t know filer that much. I did a quick try to answer to you so please don't blame me, if I tell something wrong
- Browsing history.
- Current path available at each level via buttons.
- Preview images, text files and directory sizes.
- Most actions are possible on several files.
- Interconnection with web, music and video software.
...

@Cheese,

Bad guy 10 euros is nothing for the involved work....

@VooDoo,

Yep

@all,

Don't forget that it is a first release, there'll be some improvements

This is how AmigaOS default window look should be. Or Filer to be implemented...

@Glames

I'm sure you spend a lot of time creating this utility. And I'm sure you feel 10eu is a just price. For all I care it is, and I hope you'll have many happy paying customers. I gather from this thread there are quite a few. I laughed because there are quite a lot of utilities around that do the same and better, but for free. Does that make me bad?

What makes me sad is that we, as community, are seemingly happy and doing the banana dance because of a filemanager that IMHO (stressing that part) does nothing that has been done before, even lacks in what's done before, asking 10eu for it...and (saddening part) ppl paying for it.

He means multi selection where you just click or drag click to add items. Without the need for a qualifier. The way dopus and filer work. It's a lot easier to work that way.

In what way is it 'not readable' ?

Well, I can drag click to add items

Well, I prefer reading a volume name rather than DH0: DH1:, ... but that's only my opinion of course

Yes but you can't drag a batch lift the moue and drag another batch, the intial batch of slecetion unslect when you do that. that's what severin is on about.

Both is useful in a file manager IMHO

Filer displays the device name in brackets eg:

AmigaOS4: (DH0:)

@broadblues

Ok, thank you for these extra explanations

Of course, add the devices names is not a huge task .

The same happens on other platforms (i.e. Windows); there are applications that does nothing that do not do other free applications and cost money. What's the problem?

I dont know, but maybe a few bucks for the effort will encourage developers to expand and improve their program(s) for Amiga OS?

Yeah I know that a bunch of you do it for free etc, but people gotta pay bills and work that goes towards
that tends to get perferance.
Idealism only gets you so far, and with the limited amount of developers this platform got, making a fuzz over a measly 10 euros is kinda laughable.

If you dont like/want it, dont pay. Easy really.

@Zylesea

Because Workbench as always been the last tool you wont to use when you like move or copy files or view what it is, filemaster, diskmasker, Opus5, Opus4, CliMate, and lots more of utilities has been created over the year, one might argue that lack of improvement in workbench has give lots of innovating in the PD department.

@Glames

Will you add progress bar for copying files between directories ?
Currently no progress bar appears when you are copying files.

@SinanG,

There'll be a second progress bar to show the status of the curent copy of the file itself.

In the next release.

@Glames

I tried it and it seems nice and easy to work with.

Only one thing that appeared strange: It calculates the size of everything that is selected. This makes it feel sliggish and very hard to enter some directories because the directory size scanning is so slow it becomes impossible to double-click. It is orders or magnitude slower than for example DirOpus at scanning dir size.

I see room for optimization here, and of course a switch (which may already be present?) to prevent immediate dir size scanning. DirOpus for example has a separate function for it. Only files are counted in realtime.

@Deniil715,

Dir Me Up 1.12 is now available. Download it from our website. The calculation of the selected directory size is now disabled by default.

It is very usefull IMHO but indeed a bit slow with "complex" Drawers.

Thank you for your interest.
