| Just to precise the news item:
- these ROMs are encrypted - these ROMs can only be used with the Android emulators, and cannot be used outside the emulators
So it's more like you "unlock" these emulators than really "buying" Amiga ROMS. You're not free to do what you want with them (and you can't do anything but what Cloanto wants you to do with it).
I wish someone would release AROS roms this way to... The difference is that you would be free to do what you want with it. And could even have full source code. _________________ http://www.warpdesign.fr/

| Has anyone actually managed to get this working yet I've installed it under JellyBean and Launched it. The Docs says Android Amiga Emulators should Automatically Recognise its installed but so far here, neither UAE4ALL2 OMEGA500 or UAE4DROID auto recognise its installed. uninstalling then reinstalling the emulators doesnt help Last edited by JurassicC on 25-Apr-2013 at 11:38 AM. I have dumped Amiga ROMs from my own Amigas since waaaay back, so this is not a problem for me.
But if I wanted to use the Cloanto ROMs on another emulator, I would just run a ROM dumping tool in the emulator on my legally bought ROM after booting AmigaOS, and then go on using the unencrypted and fully working ROM in another emulator.
After all, if you can read memory, you have full access to the entire kickstart ROM on any Amiga. No matter what silly encryption the emulator uses. These are very basic facts of the Amiga architecture. |

| @ The Moderators
At first I thought... "Wow... not bloody well before time" and at 65p it would be a bargain...
Then I realised the threads title is very misleading (bit like others have complained about recently on this site)...
So could a moderator please change the threads title to indicate that these files are only for use with Android products and not as the current title would have us believe that Cloanto have at last made available the Kickstart Roms & Workbench 1.2 to 3.1for use on "Classic" systems...
Just out of curiosity, if Cloanto can release these at such a low and fair price for something that isn't even Amiga (ie:Andriod wotnots), then how come they can't do the same for actual genuine Amiga hardware users... most strange... !!! _________________

The Cloanto link uses that word "legal" that we've all grown to know and love so well. Perhaps that's a clue.

It's simple: Android users aren't ready to pay that much for apps. Most apps are sold between 0.69€ and 2.99€. And that's full applications. Since we're only talking about ROMS that require an app (which may also need to be paid for), 0.99€ is acceptable for most people.
Seems like Amiga desktop users are ready to pay a lot more.
It's as simple as that. Now, what I'm wondering is: since these ROMs are more than 25 years old, and that most of it has already been reimplemented (see MorphOS/OS4, and the open source reimplementation: AROS) several times, has been documented/fully disassembled (see the exec disassembly that may be found on Aminet), why isn't it available free of charge.
If they had the rights for that, I'll ask: why isn't it open sourced ? _________________ http://www.warpdesign.fr/

They haven´t rights to open source Kickstart, only to distribute it. |
