software OS4   software OS4 : Atheros 54Mbps wireless driver for OS4
   posted by ncafferkey on 28-May-2013 9:22:46 (6426 reads)
A driver for Atheros AR5000-series 54Mbps 802.11g wireless PCI cards has been released for AmigaOS 4. It supports WPA/WPA2 encryption (as well as WEP), and is available for free on Aminet. PCI-Express cards may also work but are untested. (Please click read more.)

Versions of the driver are already distributed with AROS and MorphOS, but it is unlikely to become available for AmigaOS 3 because of DMA requirements.

Great news in supporting Wi Fi but are there any Altheros PCI cards?
I see it often integrated in netbooks and laptops

There are dozens of theoretically compatible Atheros PCI card models, but probably few if any that are still sold new. See atheros.rapla.net for a list.

@vox:
They definitely exist. I have one in my PowerMac G4/450. How easy to get them tho', I've no idea.

Great news. I'll upgrade to one of these cards eventually. My router is 802.11b/g/n, so now I can shut off 'b' when I upgrade. One of these days, routers won't have 11b backwards compatibility.

Last I knew the atheros usb sticks did not use the same driver.
