So why not to switch to cheaper hardware for the future?

It is not that trivial if you want to maintain backward compatibility.

I like Amiga, but I will never buy PPC boards at this prices...

You don´t have to. OS4 works also in WinUAE (with some limitations).

Actually "works" and change some with many. Don't think that you can do serious stuff, mostly a proof of concept and nothing more.

I have opposite experience. Yes, 128 MB RAM is realy limiting, but most applications work OK (of course, there are notable exceptions - eg. I can´t load bigger documents in AbiWord or use more than 2 tabs in Odyssey).

No need to. Just ensure enough docs so developers can rewrite latest apps. Mac didnt maintain backward comaparibility either when it switched to x84/64. After all, there is emulator for ppc now, which can be used for it.

AmigaOS is different than linux because it is maintained on one place. Much like Mac. So one company could produce optimized hardware, but much cheaper than today, with logo, casing etc...
People who like to build systems themself have option to do it as well.
And of course, whole range of laptops would be available, which is a must today.

I see no bad aspects in this approach. New users, new developers etc...
