Software News   Software News : Hollywood 6.0: Epiphany out now
posted by softwarefailure on 22-Feb-2015 11:48:54 (7595 reads)
Three years after the release of Hollywood 5 Airsoft Softwair is proud to announce the immediate availability of Hollywood 6: Epiphany. Hollywood 6 is a massive update with a myriad of new functions. The most important new feature is the complete abstraction of the core components display, audio and DOS. These can now be completely replaced by plugins which opens up totally new possibilities. For example, it is possible to replace Hollywood's inbuilt display driver with a custom implementation now. A plugin, which uses this new interface to make OpenGL available to Hollywood, will be released shortly.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of new features in Hollywood 6:

- Complete abstraction of the display, audio and DOS core components
- Support for multiple monitors
- Support for OS-native menu bars
- ARM-Linux is now supported (e.g. for the Raspberry Pi!)
- Stand-alone versions of Hollywood for Linux and Mac OS X are now included
- Videos can be used as normal Hollywood layers now including all effects and filters
- Hardware-accelerated video playback on AmigaOS 4 with the new RadeonHD driver
- Full AmiDock support including animated dockies and context menus
- AHI driver completely rewritten: it no longer blocks the audio of other applications now
- Hollywood's IO implementation is ready for streaming now
- Script execution on AmigaOS is significantly faster now
- Support for multiple Xservers on Linux
- Massive extension of the plugin interface: its size has doubled!
- Support for HTTP upload and authentification
- Inbuilt vectorgraphics renderer for perfectly smooth antialiased shapes
- 300kb of new documentation
- New example scripts
- Standard library set encompasses almost 700 functions now!
- Lots of other changes, optimizations and bug fixes

Hollywood 6: Epiphany is the ultimate Multimedia experience and a must-have for all creative people. Hollywood is available on a CD-ROM and as a download version. Both versions include Hollywood builds for all supported platforms. If you order the download version, you will have to download an ISO image which you need to burn on CD-R then. If you already own Hollywood, you can buy a discounted upgrade version.

Hollywood is the ultimate bridge between all the different AmigaOS compatible platforms and the other three modern desktop systems, Windows, Mac OS, and Linux! Additionally, Hollywood also supports the Android platform. A truly unique feature is the ability to cross-compile native executables for many different platforms including: AmigaOS3, AmigaOS4, WarpOS, MorphOS, AROS (x86), Windows, Mac OS X (x86 & PPC), and Linux (x86 & PPC & ARM). You don't even have to own these platforms in order to compile executables for them. It's enough to run Hollywood on one of the supported platforms and then compile programs for all the others! Only Hollywood makes it possible. If you want to learn more about Hollywood, please visit the the official Hollywood portal which also has a forum for all questions concerning Hollywood.

All this makes Hollywood The Cross-Platform Multimedia Application Layer. Join the Multimedia revolution and get your personal copy of Hollywood 6: Epiphany now because life begins at 6.0!

Nice! A massive update for Hollywood.

(PS - How much is Hollywood these days? I've explored the Hollywood website in the past looking for an answer, but couldn't find it.)

@OlafS
@Phoenixconsole

Thanks.

(not sure how I missed that in the past... was sure I'd explored every page including 'purchase' without success... must be the senility ;) )

Congratulations! Every time a new major version is released I am tempted to buy this great peace of software because I remember how great the Rainboot, its old ancestor, was.

However, while I believe this software is a piece of art, its website and overall marketing doesn't help much. Text and screenshots are fine, but not enough to convince me to invest 168 Euros. It is said it's a multimedia application but the website doesn't look like that... Where are some videos, tutorials, a newcomer's guide explaining basic benefits (eg. a screen with choices like: "I want to create... a game - music app - internet app - visual demo - whatever"), examples, testimonials, questions&answers (can I buy Designer without Hollywood itself), etc. etc. ?

Just my 2 cents...

Hi,

the ARM linux support is a game changer. If played out well.

You can find some video-tutorials on youtube and on indieGO!-Appstore

You can also check all those demo codes which come also with Hollywood Designer demo. Also you, get if you ask, support on the official forum. As well as code snippets from other users.

----------
Following apps in Broadway and AEROS are done with Hollywood:
AMC (amiga media Center), indieGO!-Appstore, Download manager, Amiwallet (yes bohoooo HTTPS plugin follows), Quickstarter (Dock), Snapshooter, GemZ(Game), VAN-Media Player and video Codec , lockhere (image viewer) and much more.

Also "Aquario Screensaver" is done in Hollywood

I guess Amikits point was that it is not easy enough to find out what Hollywood is and is capable of.

As example when pointing out all those example programs that you can try out with the Hollywood demo, while they indeed are good examples of showing what all Hollywood can do, it still requires you to first actually try out the demo, and that is already quite a big step to do actually.

I for example looked if i could find out another video recorder instead of camtasia that could do the same that i needed for tutorial videos, but for cheaper price. While quite a few names came up in my searches, only Demobuilder was able to convince me to try it. There were demo versions available for probably every other video recorder too, but they didnt seem like they had what i needed.

Also, I remember when i was still only about to buy hollywood. Even I had seen this video that was demonsrating Hollywoods capabilities and they looked very convincing, there were some, afterwards looking silly questions that i still had, like can i make games with it? For in Hollywood marketing at least at that time still, the multimedia was emphasized, so i wasnt sure if Hollywood was actually just some powerpoint thing which instead of using point n click interface, would be using programming instead and hence making it more powerful but harder to use. And that games would just be something that you accidentally actually can do, but perhaps not as well as with something else.

Nowadays I know Hollywood is full programming language (although Andreas insists on correcting that it is a scripting language, which it strictly to the book is, but what i mean when i say programming language, it is fully that, and what i mean by scripting language when i talk of scripting language, Hollywood is not)

But although I can give some comments from the past, I have to admit that I woudlnt know what should be done nowadays anymore, since I am blind to Hollywoods marketing gaps at this point already, as I already know what Hollywood is completely and all that it is capable of.

Thank you Andreas for the best software in Amiga history.

With your software we have possibility to use old amiga sw/hw, with old amiga filetypes and put those files all together on true color screen on system of our choice.
I think this is amazing because it also gives classic amiga way to be useful again.

Every new version is massive update and I will order new version soon.

Again, thank you for the superb creative software for our beloved OS, it also keeps me away from wasting my time on some forums!!!

Wow I'll be looking forward to this, congrats Andreas.

I can see lots of my existing apps can be upgraded thanks to lots of requested enhancements inc. AHI, accelerated video - both of these alone will solve some functionality in Jack I had to disable due to limitations found in 5.0.
Presumbly the AHI enhancements will solve that weird Arexx related issue too.

However so busy atm, I will be releasing a MUI development "kit" for Hollywood hopefully this side of Summer.
