Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : New PPaint 7.3b for AmigaOS4 available on AMIStore
   posted by amigakit on 4-Aug-2016 20:56:51 (5840 reads)
A-EON Technology Ltd is pleased to announce a new version of Personal Paint for AmigaOS 4.1. The new version is free of charge upgrade for existing 7.3 customers now on AMIStore Amiga App Store. An updated version for OS3 will follow shortly.

The new 7.3b version is a maintainence release. Additionally, the distribution and installation have been brought in line with the recent Enhancer Software standards, with InfoWindow tool documentation viewing and optional black style icons designed by Martin "Mason" Merz.

If you do not yet own PPaint, you can purchase this new version by either visiting the official website (www.ppaint.com) or on the AMIStore App Store.

In 2015, Personal Paint for the Amiga was purchased by A-EON Technology Ltd and is being further developed by Andy Broad, member of the AmigaDeveloper.com Team. In keeping with our commitment to providing new quality software for the AmigaONE X1000, AmigaOS 4.1 compatible and Classic Amiga computers, expect further upgrades and enhancements to PPaint.

I made a very quick test and the bugs that were plaguing the program (change of color of the single pixel tool, [pattern] filling) seem to be fixed: thank you!

@cgutjahr

The window at the bottom of the news release appears to be using the InfoWindow class. One of the tabs is labeled "tutorial".

I doubt they want to lock out people who don't have Enhancer and they know that certain people are just itching to kick up a stink if there's even so much of a hint that they might.

InfoWindow is a simple tool that groups the documentation inot a tabbed window, it depends on infowindow.class from the enhancer package, but all the docs are still seperate text files, so can be viewed without InfoWindow tool.

This only applies to the support documentaion / FAQ etc. the main documentaion is in amigaguide and html format, so best viewed with MultiView(er) or a broswer.

So it means that this new feature is NOT working without Enhancer package?

Yes. Not exactly a show stopper though, and it would be a bit silly for them to write a bunch of new classes and then not even use them in their own software.

@klx300r

One of the bugs fixed is that the lock on the TCPPointers file was not released after running PPaint, so I guess you ran the earlier install before installing the new one, simply reboot before installing, to clear this issue.

Actually, no, Enhancer is not required. The installation package is self contained. CGutJahr and company are going to have to try abit harder to find content for their discrediting news item when they publish it....

@broadblues

Do you mean InfoWindow is included in the Ppaint install?

Yes I included it to enhance the user experience and bring it more into line with the work we have done recently on the Enhancer Software, it seemed the logical way to go on this occasion. Additionally offering black and blue style icon choices in the installation so that users with the Enhancer Software can have a more uniform look to their A-EON software.

Andy has listened to user feedback with respect to maintaining the application itself and hopefully addressed any bugs found.

@broadblues:

Thanks for the info about InfoWin, wasn't sure how to word my news item.

It's online now. Since you're apparently fluid in German, have fun finding any 'discrediting" parts.

Thanks!

2 MB Chip RAM limitation on RTG screens (OS4.1FE Classic) still not fixed...

InfoWindow tool seems to have the same weird bug as diskimageGUI - freezes OS, if backdrop picture is not set in GUI prefs.

Back to 7.1.

I can't fix bugs that simply don't exist, I enabled 1Mb of chip ram on my SAM (via Setpatch ADDCHIPRAM ) started PPaint with default settings, and it doesn't use any of that chipram.

Please type

AVAIL CHIP at the shell immediatly before starting PPaint, and whilst it is running.

Also describe in detail how to obtain the "chip mem" error.

My guess is that it's saying it's out of chip ram, when the error is something different.

Since you using WinUAE you might see if chnage the ammount of chip ram makes any difference, you can have up to 8Mb IIRC.

The installer says I must read the "readme" file before proceeding. I found and double-clicked the readme icon. A window opens and my system freezes, requiring a reboot. Not very impressive. I retried and skipped the readme .

Also notice that the installer puts PPView 1.3 in C: but PPaint/PPaint_Prefs/ contains PPView 1.2. Should we delete PPaint/PPaint_Prefs/PPView or replace it with v1.3 ??

@Xenic

Do you have back ground pattern fill set in GUI prefs / gadgets section?

If not then you just hit the bug that Pavlor refers to about the InfoWindow class, also affects the MultiViewer about window, suggesting it's class related rather than the InfoWindowtool.

There is not functional difference between PPView 1.2 and 1.3 the differences is in the version string, which is not standard in the PPView 1.2 so you can delete or replace or leave alone as you please.

@Pavlore yes InfoWindow.class appears to have an issue with no background fill, I'll pass that info on to the author.

[edit]The author is aware already, there's a thread about it on amigans.net

http://www.amigans.net/modules/xforum/viewtopic.php?start=20&topic_id=5382&viewmode=&order=ASC&type=&mode=0

Check our e-mails from June 2015.

PPaint 7.3 simply eats Chip RAM for images even on RTG screens. Sure, for 320x200 it is no problem, but 1680x1050 256 colours needs nearly 1.8 MB.

Not under OS4 I think.
