Software News   Software News : CookieMonster 1.4.0 released for AOS4/MOS/AROS
   posted by marko on 9-Feb-2017 20:59:44 (4819 reads)

CookieMonster is a cookie cleaner for Odyssey web browser (support for more
browsers to follow in future versions).

FEATURES

- Scans Odyssey web browser cookies from any given path provided in settings.
- Possible to mark cookies for Deletion, to be Ignored, or to be Always Ignore, in future scans before commiting to delete any of them.
- Possible to add cookies to Ignore List to exclude them from deletion.
- Provides a number of settings, which are stored in a file in ENVARC:
- Executables for all three NG Amigas, including AOS4, MOS and AROS.
- Written on an Amiga NG machine for Amigans and Amiga NG machines.

REQUIREMENTS

MUI4 and OpenUrl.library

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Scan for cookies with the button Scan Cookies.
2. Select cookies in the Cookie page. (You can hold down the SHIFT key while
clicking on a cookie to toggle its selection.)
3. Use the pop-up menu (context-menu/right-click) on selected cookies to mark
them for deletion or to be ignored. Choose "Ignore & Add to Ignore List" if
you always wish to ignore the cookie(s) from detetion in the future. If you
wish to view information for a cookie, choose "View Information" insted on
an active entry (make it active first by clicking on the cookie).
4. To delete them press the button Delete Cookies (only licensed version).

CHANGES

Version 1.4.0: (Feb 2017)
- Optimized scanning action/operation, roughly 10-20% faster now (on my system AOS4.1FEu1 on a Sam440ep-flex).
- Implemented so it's possible to add "custom" items to Ignore List. Usually you want to ignore all from a certain domain, this is now archived by entering an * into Name, Path and Protocol fields so it matches all from this certain domain.
- Button images now linked with exe on AOS4, MOS and AROS.
- Fixed bug, program would fail if using "View Information" menu item on no cookies (empty list) or nothing selected.
- Fixed a few bugs related to Ignore List and its items.
- Moved Ignore List, it is now saved and loaded from ENVARC: .
- First-Time Ignore List is now also created when no such list exists yet.
- Added more buttons images to buttons in AOS4, including MOS and AROS.
- Added Scan and Delete Cookies to popup menu on Cookies page.
- Added icon (.info file) for the ReadMe file and snapshotted drawers.

Looks nice and is a good example for a Hollywood MUI Royale production.

Uhhhh... do you have a license from The Children's Television Workshop to use that image?

@Templario

To my knowledge it should, report if it does not.

@klx300r

Thanks John!

@Zylesea

Thanks!

@terminills & paolone

There is some issues with the current AROS version, working on it right now!

@daveyw

I have drawn the image myself, do I still need a licence...?

I'm sorry, but 12eu for a cookie cleaner? Something OWB has an inbuild menu for? Luckily it has a killer feature, "Provides a number of settings, which are stored in a file in ENVARC:"

...come on

Disgusting! Unless you are also selling your the image you have "drawn yourself" on on Amazon as a sticker...

1: ... you have stolen the image from its author.
2: ... you are now trying to make a profit out of someone else's work.
3: ... you are lying straight in the face of your potential customers, taking the credit from someone else in the process.

Assuming you are not a successful sticker artist, your entire business model makes me sick, frankly speaking.

Here's the image from Amazon's servers for anyone keen to vet Marko:

... and here is the screenshot:

Yes, I have indeed drawn the image myself, although I looked at the image when doing so.

But you don't need to worry about it anymore, I will remove the image and call CookieMonster something else!

CookieMonster is officially now renamed to something else, thank you.

@ Petah

bit harsh for a little sketch eh. The program at hand has nothing to do with Sesame Street or pre-school children for that matter so I doubt they'll be screaming for a law suit

Marko's been around having fun with his Amiga for a long time in our community and he spent some time making some programs that help other Amiga users.

@ marko
I think the name itself isn't copyrighted and you can leave it. You should only change the image including icon.

I love MUI and the look and layout of your program's GUI is really great for me.
I wonder why you decide to create a cookie tool white Odyssey has its own, built in, cookie manager, and it's quite handy to use?
The real inconvenience of OWB tools is a lack of DELETE option in the history window.
I would pay 12 euros for a HistoryMonster

@klx300r

You'd be suprised. In this case injecting some common sense instead of going "yay!" at anything amiga related.

common sense is not the same as common courtesy unfortunately. You don't have to say 'yay' to have either btw

I'm not a patent lawyer, and if you're planning on selling this you should probably consult one.

But yes, it doesn't matter if you have drawn the image yourself. The character is still someone else's IP. Maybe you could use the name, but the image? It's pretty blatant.

Like I said, consult a lawyer.

Will they come after you? Maybe not, but that's not necessarily the point.
