News   News : Haage & Partner seeks developers for AmigaOS4 software support
   posted by MikeB on 22-Aug-2003 11:48:05 (5293 reads)
German Amiga portal Amiga-news.de reports on an email sent by Jürgen Haage in which he seeks developers to port ArtEffect and StormC to AmigaOS4. Furthermore H&P will stop the sale of some of H&P's Amiga products. H&P's best sellers PageStream, StormC, ArtEffect and AmigaWriter will not be effected.

I like the Storm C environment! If this report is accurate then it's good news!

Good news indeed. Nice to see developers gearing up for OS4.

I concur with my brother. Surely this signals a watershed of greater things to come.

Wasn't the difference just about one product? If so, perhaps...

Furthermore H&P will stop the sale of some of H&P's Amiga products.

Does it really matter if they have or not? They fell out over a couple of products (the OS and Amithlon IIRC). They aren't actively involved in the development of either of them any more.

Think what you like about H&P, the Amiga needs Storm, ArtEffect and the like to carry on being developed.

Hmm. Pagestream is H&Ps bestseller? But they don't make Pagestream

Anyway, controversy around H&P aside, I'm glad to see packages such as StormC, ArtEffect and AmigaWriter will continue to be developed, as this can only be a positive thing for the Amiga community.

It was about H&P not paying Amiga Inc royalties for AmigaOS3.9 and AmigaOSXL sales. Something which could be avoided if there was more money to make within the Amiga market.Let's hope OS4 will change this.

This is very positive news!

@ xeron

They do sell Pagestream tho, I upgraded to version 4.0 from 3 some time back via H & P, it was the easier solution for those that lived in Europe.

I would like to see Art Effect developed further as it is a fine package & has a lot more potential.

Amiga Writer I feel needs to be updated/fixed as it too has masses of potential. It is the only word processor that has had any recent development on the Amiga. My favourite Final Writer has unfortunately stopped being in development long ago (when Godon Harwoods left the Amiga scene) and Wordworth too (when Digita left the Amiga scene).

@sicky

Recently bought Final Writer 97 and I must say I'm surprised how well it works.

It's a pity that there won't be a 4.0 version.

Agreed. Art Effect and AmigaWriter are very welcome.

StormC is interesting. Presumably this would provide developers with the much sort after IDE for GCC, perhaps taking the pressure of Hyperion to provide such a solution, and allowing them to concentrate on 4.1

Nice to hear that ArtEffect will come to OS4. I was wondering about that already. I always liked H&P. Good to hear that they are moving forward with new (updated) products.

I would love to see ArtEffect and the other stuff on OS4. For Pagestream things are looking good, that we will see it soon running on OS4. And then, we might see soon Real3D, maybe Imagine and AudioEvolution on OS4...

But to remain on topic: I derive from the posting that H&P will keep selling AmigaWriter, but they don't seek any programer for the porting. Is someone already working on it?

Heck if they want to pay for me to learn C I would help them port the products!

Haage and Partner should have stopped the sale of one very important piece of software a long time ago.

Because they didn't, I don't share everyone else's excitement here.

I'm not interested.

Period.

I would love a PPC native version of AmigaWriter. I intend to buy this when I go on my OS 4.0 software shopping spree.

The question is, will they get exclusive rights to the compilers modified by the Friedens (essentially making gcc-amigaos4 payware), or will they just be content to provide a good programmers' editor and a GUI for GDB?

Can anyone from Hyperion comment?

@mountain_myst

I agree that the handling of that situation was, how can i say, not the best i have seen. How ever it was sometime ago now, and lets be frank, the Amiga needs as much software as it can get.

H&P may not have been the best in that mess, but lets let bygones be bygones.
