OS4.1 system uptime!

So, I went browsing the forums and found a really old thread (over a year) about uptimes that had a couple replies. Decided this might be better as a new thread.

A few weeks ago I submitted the following Workbench screenshot:
http://amigaworld.net/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=607

You can see I had a 27 day uptime at that time by looking at the NetMon window in the bottom right corner. I still haven't rebooted the A1 XE G4 since then. Now I'm over 51 days!

See the screengrab:

So, what kind of uptimes is anyone else getting in Amiga OS 4.1?

For comparison:
My Windows 7 box is at about 3.5 days (was over 9 days before that, had some updates).
My Fedora 11 box is at about 70 hours since it had a kernel update that needed a reboot, and now has more updates to apply that need a reboot.
There's a Windows 2008 (32-bit) install in a VirtualBox virtual machine running on the Fedora 11 box that has been up for 4.5 days (run some scripts in Fedora to use VirtualBox's "suspend to disk" option before the shutdown, similar to Windows' Hibernation function, but works even if Windows is not set up for hibernation).

Edit:
Forgot to mention that I've updated OWB each time it came out during this time, as well as other stuff that AmiUpdate has found. Even posted this with OWB 3.22 in OS 4.1, that I just updated to a few minutes ago.

@DWolfman

I guess comparing uptimes isn't too popular?

I'm now up to 53 days and 1 hour.

@DWolfman

Maybe people aren't impressed. Why waste all that electricity?

Or perhaps we switch our computers off at the end of the day?

My Sam440ep @ 533mhz is always switched on. Although my best uptime was 3 days or so.

Of course it's a waste of power but I think that the Sam use less power than a standard PC switched on 8 hours a day.

Given that "uptime" isn't exactly an AmigaOS strength (run a buggy program & you may need to reboot), 51 days is VERY impressive! Maybe after Update 1 I will be able to get over 8 *hours* on my Sam...

Nice English humour

That's why amigans feel booting times are really important !
We need to reboot too frequently.

What happens with SAM? Is not stable?

I have a lot of GrimReaper visits on my Peg 2 with applications
like AmigaAMP, TuneNET, even SabreMSN or Wookiechat.

To me is just seems very wasteful.

I always turn everything off that I am not using.

My Amiga One has been on about 10 minutes.

I think it is quite stable, but keeping it on for days with out using it is a waste of energy.

Hi Ande, I never would leave a computer turned On If i'm not going to use it,
I Agree, absurd waste of electricity, and hardware lifetime maybe...

@BillE

Probably you consume more turning it off few times a day that keeping it on. At least on Mac which is really energy efficient it is the right way, and i think the same apply to OS4, just set your standby and monitor standby time.

Computers are "stressed" during turn on and off not while they are on. SAM is efficient, OS4 too, i have a SSD drive. i consume more turning it off and on 3 times a day that keeping it on.

Stressed maybe, but that thing you told us about the power consumption is not true.

Here is some values that i measured with my Etech PM300 energy meter.
I have a 200W PSU in my SAM.

Standby without switching the SAM on 23W
booting up OS4.1 52W
Playing DVD's 73W
Normal use, etc. web browsing 53W

These values was measured after i bought my SAM one year ago.

As you can se from my measured data, my SAM takes a lot of electricity even if it is not on, so you should plug it out from the socket or use a socket with a on/off switch.

Not OS4, but i've reached 22 days, and 30 days a few years earlier with my A2000/B2060/PicassoIV system, with a highly patched and customized OS 3.1. And yes, the system was in daily desktop use at the time. It was quite slow in the end, as the RAM became very fragmented, and there was no TLSFMem patch (read: O(1) memory allocator) back then. So i decided to reboot, after making of that second screenshot.

Sad, but doesn`t mean a thing (except from that you waste energy). OS4 under normal use (not just leaving the computer on, so my fridge is on) has crashed every now and then (under 30`), needing a hard reset (no KB reset etc..).

Leaving a computer on, is of no use to the home user (extra expenses, with no actual usage!)

TuneNET & WookieChat are VERY stable here, so maybe something wrong with you system? Beware buggy TuneNet plugins, and maybe also beta versions of WookieChat.

Maybe you are right with TuneNet and Wookiechat.
The Most annoying crash, is when i hear mp3 or mods (Simpleplay),
IBrowse hangs quite frequently.
with OWB no crash at all !!!
