| Hi all. As some of you may be aware Ive slowly but surely been tinkering away with an installer of sorts for an OS3.x based system for a number of months (something like aiab,amikit,amigasys,etc, but able to be used on a real amiga/amithlon/etc as well as the standard (win)uae)..... completely custom gui for the installer that lets you chose what u want installed, what u dont, visual styles, various dev stuff (from gcc + binutils based stuff to amos to amiblitz)..... things have progressed to a point where I can start thinking about a release, but before I do so Id like to get a few people to help me test this installer Ive written... as a 1st baby step in this direction I was planning on releasing what Ive dubbed "AMOS-Max" to a few "lucky" people, which will use my new installer (obviously modified slightly). Preferably Id like to find people who may make use of it, rather than getting people to soley test the installer side of things as that way I get to kill two birds with one stone As for what AMOS-Max is, its a preconfigured AMOS Pro install, with various extensions already set up (and further customizable via installer)..... things like AGA/RTG/Reaction/Intuition/MUI/etc/etc are set up, ready to go upon install making it possible to develop for OS4/MOS/Amithlon with AMOS. If anyone is interested in helping me out please let me know. Thanks |

Now that would be NICE! I haven't touched Amos since 1996 or so. Did they made it more compatible for Amiga OS development? But still interesting to have an Amos with all the possible features.
Let us know when Amos-Max is finished!

| Hi @Samurai_Crow
Is this software on sale somewhere ? Never saw it.
Doh, Not 'Amos-Max', but the original 'Amos Professional'. Last edited by Snuffy on 12-Nov-2006 at 07:30 PM.

Amos Professional used to be available as a free download on the Back to the Roots website as a set of .ADF files for use with classic Amiga emulators. Now the only place I know of where you can get it is on a STOS/AMOS fan site whose link is found at the bottom of this thread. Note that Software Hut still has the user guides that used to come with AmosPro so it might be worth looking into. |

AmosPro still bangs the hardware mercilessly but there are a few extensions that will make software work on GFX cards. There is also a new implementation of it called Mattathias Basic being written to translate old Amos sources to their C equivalents. |

Ive had it more or less prepared for a while actually.... just didnt realise anyone was interested. Just incase people didnt realise its merely AMOS Pro with an assortment of extensions, assorted documents and help, a little customisation, pre-configured,etc, etc. with an easy to use installer. I spent a bit of time fooling around with pretty much all things AMOS Pro over time and this is from my experiences/experiments a good mix of extensions and whatnot to add something extra to a standard AMOS Pro install (retargetable gfx and sound, system friendly/complient (well mostly)), tcp/ip,mui,blahlbahblah). I noticed a fair few thread popping up about people wanting something easy and fun to be able to play with these days programming wise, and I guess this effectively was the result. Sure, there's plenty of valid reasons why a person would suggest not to use AMOS, but it is fun So if I can make it easy for people to extend its functionality to make it fun for a few more people then great. Oh, I should probably mention though incase there's anyone unclear exactly what AMOS-Max is, you'll still need access to a machine with custom chips, despite being able to generate system friendly code, cos it uses the normal (slightly customised) AMOS Pro 2 editor). Anyway, I'll upload it somewhere shortly. |

I'm very interested, please let us know when and where you are able to upload it to so we can get it.

| So is this a Workbench distribution (like AmiKit, AmigaSYS, AIAB) or an AROS distribution?
I believe that the AmiKit distribution is very highly respected within the Amiga emulation community, is it really necessary to re-invent the wheel once again? Kind regards, James x |

"As for what AMOS-Max is, its a preconfigured AMOS Pro install, with various extensions already set up (and further customizable via installer)"
This would be a Workbench distribution aimed only to those who wish to program using AMOS Basic and with all its extensions in place.

Even with intuition etc. extensions installed, and even if you only use those extentions, i'm not convinced that an AMOS Pro compiled program would run on an AmigaOne or Pegasos; even if you only use intuition, the AMOS program would still initialise the AMOS environment, and try and talk to the custom chips.Last edited by xeron on 13-Mar-2007 at 12:06 PM.

They do. I've tried A person has to be a little selective with what they use, but it can work. To be honest though, as far as an easy to use language goes Amiblitz is probably a better bet for A1/os4, MOS/Peg users, but AMOS is still usable.
@thread
What Ive dubbed AMOS-Max has ben sitting on my harddrive ready to go for some time, but Ive been wanting to save it for my Amikit type distro. That has changed though now as Amikit may soon use the same installer Id been making for my own distro which will make my own efforts a little redundant. Ive still to ask Jan about whether or not he wants certain content Id been planning on using, so depending on the outcome of that I might just release the "AMOS-Max" pack on its own after all. Either way all will be revealed in one form or other shortly.
