| Any suggestions on your favourite OS 4 (or compatible) text editor? Wanted something simple but powerful too.
Notepad is nice, but maybe something with a few more featues, like the classic editors back in the day.

I use FrexxEd for all text editing (also coding): it's for M68k, but it's also powerful, flexible and works like a charm on AOS4.

Thanks for the suggestion, will give it a whirl.
I have MicroGoldEd working great in OS4.1 as well now, used to like this editor a lot. |

A text editor is a very personal choice. I have found that once you get used to one editor, it can be real difficult to change to a different one. Way back in the old days, I grew accustomed to the editor that came with the Lattice C compiler. It was called LSE. Later, Lattice was bought out by SAS, and the editor name was shortened to SE.
Sas no longer supports the Amiga, and a polite request to release the source to that editor was politely refused.
The editor is not "modern".. no color, no keyword highlighting, no automatic bracket matching, but it's still the editor that let's me be the most productive.
And except for a scroll speed issue, it works pretty well under OS4.
Now if one of the "modern" editors offered a SE compatibility mode, I'd be the first customer in line. The biggest issue seems to be how blocks of text are highlighted for copying.
And I only bothered to write all this out in detail in hope that some other LSE/SE fans might chime in too! If there's enough of us, maybe we'll get a compatible editor one day.

TuiTed!
http://aminet.net/package/text/edit/TuiTED
It has syntax highlighting for HTML, C/C++, AmiBlitz2.
You can have multiple files open and they each have a tab. Great for something like have main.cpp, class.h, class.cpp all open and going between all of them easily.
It's very small and very easy to use.

Wow. I heard that Olaf Barthel did some work to update the editor but never knew there was an OS4 version!_________________ The Rear Window blog

Ever since I used CED on my A500 with Kickstart 1.3, 15 years ago, it's been my favourite. |

| @drHirudo Yes, there is an OS4 version of CygnusEd, and I am using a beta version of it to code E programs on my Sam440. Not sure if OS4 version has been publically released or not.
CygnusEd is great. I have been using it for some years, and would not use anything else - my biggest reason being that you can edit multiple sections of a single file at once. Macros are handy, and easily created. You can even use it to edit binary files, unlike nearly all other text editors! Last edited by ChrisH on 01-May-2009 at 07:59 AM.

Say are there any text editors for PPC Amigas that read/export to rtf??
I mean actually if rich text is output in any way, there must be some conversion tool on Aminet already, to convert rtf/Ami_rt. Or am I wrong?
What about postscript? Can each of you quoting those all solutions above add a brief description of I/O formats? Then the list would be pretty comprehensive. I/O in text editors is pretty crucial you know.
Thanks in advance. _________________ Amiga 1200 + WARP 1260 + AmigaOS 3.2 |

It was released quite a while ago. And the beta version you mentioned is the next thing to come out, as soon as I can find the time to take care of it.

My version is CygnusEd professional v5.3, and says copyright 1987-2006 Cygnusoft software, and it's definetly not beta. _________________ Peter Swallow. A1XEG3-800 [IBM 750FX PowerPC], running OS4.1FE, using ac97 onboard sound.

Err ... text?
We've been discussing text editors not word processors, distinctly different beasts,

Well not entirely different. Some applications are of multi- purpose.
So you mean text editors for dev? OK, sorry then, just ignore me _________________ Amiga 1200 + WARP 1260 + AmigaOS 3.2 |

And now even search into opened files Stay tuned
P.S.: I'm waiting for someone who cares about TextEditor MCC to make it faster and with tab character support... nobody want work on it? Last edited by ShInKurO on 01-May-2009 at 10:44 AM.
