If it's true, I hope they replace it with another mini-itx format (maybe a more powerful one?!) as the mini-itx is way more popular than flex format...(not talking just about SAM here).
Let's see...

From what I understand Acube will focus on the samFLEX boards from now on - so i believe the above statment is truen.
I guess this is a natural move from Acube since most new users want a FLEX because it offers more power.

| @fuskoSCN: Shouldn't we wait till ACube makes an official statement?
EDIT: Noticed hunks comment too late... Last edited by AP on 26-Jan-2010 at 11:48 AM.

I say it again, ACube please stay with mini-itx boards (more powerful this time?!) , they are more popular than the flex format

| @TheDaddy Yes I am in the smaller is all I have space for camp, and if I could not get a mini-itx sam440ep I would have not purchased a system to run OS4 on.
Flex is just to big, as a third computer that can not replace my Windows desktop or my Linux server and my Thinkpad Laptop (primary system) and Macbook (for providing OSX support).
So if I could not get a mini-itx sam440ep I would now be running morphOS instead on a macmini, as all I wanted was a small faster system to run my 68k and PPC apps and replace my ageing A1200 and BlizzardPPC setup. _________________ Sam440ep 667mhz, 512MB, 120GB 2.5" HD, OS4.1FE WinUae 3.0.0, OS 3.9, BB3, Catweasel MkIV Amiga 1200, Blizzard 040/40 (BlizzardPPC 060/200 with SCSI removed at present), mediatorSX pci, Voodoo3, PCI network card os 3.9BB2 4MB Minimig with ARM addon boar |

Exactly.
I mean this for example is a juicy mini-itx board:
ZOTAC GeForce 9300-ITX
and it fits in a small/ish case.

Hopefully in the next mini-itx board they'll position the power connector the right way round and provide an I/O backplate

+ 1. The SAM Flex is just too big. For me, the tiny size of the 440ep was THE selling factor. _________________ The Rear Window blog

| @TheDaddy: I like the mini-itx-formfacror, too. That´s the main-reason I use a microA1.

I know, I honestly would have preferred they ditched the flex and improved the mini-itx with a faster CPU, one 16X PCI-Express slot, lots of USB, eSata etc...
it also makes designing the case for it a nightmare!

| I absolutely LOVE the Mini-ITX size (it's even smaller than my Shuttle PC), and do not think the Flex is much better: You get 1 more free PCI slots, the graphics card can have more memory (but 64MB is fine for me), and for some reason they offer it with a faster CPU even though I think the Mini-ITX could handle it just the same.
If the Flex sold any better, it is probably because it was available at 733MHz (and previously 800MHz).
Very saddened by this news, because the Flex requires a MUCH larger case (although they are usually mostly fresh air inside). _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue... |

I agree with you.
Personally I would have not created the Flex (even though I own the 800MHz one), I would have concentrated time/money/energy in replacing/improving the mini-itx.
Oh well...
