Hey all,

Since the iPad is so popular now and fairly main stream, is there an app that let's you emulate Amiga on it? Thanks.

Ed

Don't think so, Apple don't usually allow emulation of other OSes on the Appstore, a C64 emulator was pulled as it let you access BASIC.

A guy came to my Amiga club demoing an ARM optimised UAE on an iPHone. Give they use the same CPU and similar OS I'd say yes. Now if only I could remember what that was called....

@danwood

What was wrong with it? It wasn't the BASIC in the early Apple computer?

Gee that's clutching at straws. Microsoft produced them all didn't they?

I don't understand this decision. BASIC isn't a shell to the underlying OS structures, it runs inside an emulator. What's the point of their argument?

Sounds as if the Apple techs have even dumbed themselves down on that one!

You can write run and install software out of their control. That's clearly dangerous as it reduces thier profit margin.....

^ This. Also, I believe at least one of the problems is because they prohibit any language interpreters.

From their developer EULA:

""3.3.2 An Application may not itself install or launch other executable code by any means, including without limitation through the use of a plug-in architecture, calling other frameworks, other APIs or otherwise. No interpreted code may be downloaded and used in an Application except for code that is interpreted and run by Apple's Published APIs and built-in interpreter(s).""

Why?

Do you want an Amiga that catches fire ?

Apple tries to feign ignorance but the Lithium Polymer batteries they use are notorious for it.

@FalloutBoy

If iPads were bursting into flames all over the world, we'd be hearing a lot about it.

They can't be any worse than our 20-25 yeah old Power Supplies we keep under our Amiga desks.

Magical power of commodore: they made a one-time exception and reintegrated it! Very nice as a conversational item, but obviously pointless as touch controlling the c64 is unbearable. (yet I managed to play a few bathroom hours of Sword of Fargoal....)

I have just downloaded it from the Appstore and can see why it got approved second time, they removed C64 BASIC/the OS front end from it.

So you have an iOS interface and just launch the games directly. This is probably the way they could put an Amiga emulator on too, just loads into games, but they wouldn't approve one that let you run workbench.

@danwood

I just re-downloaded it and it *does* have basic included! (iPhone, not iPad).
Btw, with or without the basic frontend, it would still be a VM/Emulator running non-native machine code, and as such it should be banned. Unusual.

SDLBasic doesn't...
I think it's about Secured Sockets protocol. You can alter them with basic.

Yes, I know Google is our friend - just hought I'd ask the "Experts" if you all knew of an app out already.

@falloutboy

Not all iPads catch fire and blow up on people, my new iPad(3) is just fine.

So all I found out so far, through Google and the forums, is a NO. Seems like there talk of it happening, but nothing as of yet. Nice to see some Amiga games getting made for other platforms like iPad though - Battle Squadron being one example.

Hmmn how is this accessed, running on the iPhone 4S I can only see the game launcher, no way to get into BASIC.

I have it filed under "Games". I bet this is what happened: Basic has been removed, but since i "in-app bought" it (although it actually shipped with the emulator), Apple is somehow forced to let me have it anyway.

Hi,

It is now possible to run loads of Amiga Apps/Games on jailbroken iPad, using AmigaPad.

Let me know if any one wants help on this.
