1,79. Is the right value for you? Sure? It is a bit high, i use 1,79 to have my machine perfeclty stable but i have a G41000. _________________ ikir |

Are there new versions of eth3com.device available for beta-testers? Can anything be said about it, changes, faster, something else?
Network works much better in Linux but it's still acting a bit funny. When I download something at high speed (10 Mbit or 50 Mbit) it will begin at top-speed then halt for a few seconds, then continue for a few seconds, then halt again etc...
Could this be because of the DMA hack? I know that you're not a Linux guru (or at least I think that you're not) but if you can't answer maybe someone else can (Ross) |

OK, I have changed mem stick now. No errors with the memchecker, here is the output, is it supposed to be like this? Thinking about that unlocked mem thing, and why didn't it find 256mb? I haven't tried AmigaAmp yet, but I will stress it right now!....
memtester version 4.0.5 (32-bit) Copyright (C) 2005 Charles Cazabon. Licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2 (only).
pagesizemask is 0xfffff000 want 300MB (314572800 bytes) got 139MB (146010112 bytes) Continuing with unlocked memory; testing will be slower and less reliable. Loop 1/1: Stuck Address : ok Random Value : ok Compare XOR : ok Compare SUB : ok Compare MUL : ok Compare DIV : ok Compare OR : ok Compare AND : ok Sequential Increment: ok Solid Bits : ok Block Sequential : ok Checkerboard : ok Bit Spread : ok Bit Flip : ok Walking Ones : ok Walking Zeroes : ok
Done.

hmm.. yea, that's right... all this stuff about the VCore got me thinking. I have upped mine one step, but maybe it's not enough? Did the A1XE-G3 come with different CPU's or are the same CPU used on all? And what VCORE is the correct one for an A1XE-G3? _________________ AOS4 Betatester, Peg2, G4@1ghz, Radeon 9250 256mb, 1gb RAM.

I agree that it's probably not Remote Desktop itself causing the problem. I was having frequent lockup problems with RD when using the update2 eth3com.device (sorry, don't have the version with me). Since I've gone back to the one on the OS4 cd, I haven't had any lockups with RD. This is on an unfixed XE G4 800 with si680 card and soundblaster live.

I atke it that's a single 256MB module? If so, you might want to change your 'requested' amount of RAM to test at the command line, ie: memtester 128 1 to only grab 128MB for the test.
The results are what you wanted to see.
Not sure no why it only got 139MB...I'd expect it to be able to grab up to 200MB or so, but it's probably something to do with the way the current memory virtualization and/or 68k 'reserved' memory works on OS4. (anyone calrify this a bit, ie is 64MB reserved for 68k and doesn't go back into the usable memory pool for native apps, or?)

The crash happens here too. Even when I play the mp3 files using mplayer. The hetwork is always in use (web/nfs/etc).
I'm running os4 update2 on A1G4XE@800MHz. No memory problems, right vcore.

| @spotUP Hopefully someone with more info on the XE-G3 can answer this (I dunno), but AFAIK, the only way to get the correct CPU info is to remove the heatsink and thermal paste and get the info off the cpu itself.
The CPU or workbench title bar when configured can give you the series of CPU, ie 7447 or 7455 etc, but not the rest of the info you want unfortunately.
Maybe the XE-G3s only did come in a single CPU model, that would save you some aggravation, as I'd be VERY careful in removing the heatsink if you're not comfortable doing so...
Please do NOT 'arbitrarily' change your VCore settings or jumpers without full CPU information..
Did you re-run your stress tests after you swapped in the other (good) RAM?

I have sometimes lockup of the computer (freeze) when using ANR and amplifier when streaming music. I cant remember that i had any lockup just playing from the harddisk. So i believe it has to do with the network part.
If i run bittorent, dnetc etc it can run for days. If im unlucky my amiga will loose ping. But mostly it runs for days. If i use ATC for transfering file specially big it does loose ping many times so i have to reboot my a1. Then i can ping again.

That's exactly what happens for me too.

SB Audigy. I have moved it to different slots without any difference.

Ah, please. There is nothing that justifies such a claim yet. It's always easier to blame it on that again.
|
It just feels like it as it hangs so completely, blocking everything. I can't even reboot other than using the reset-button on the case when this happens. I hope I'm wrong though... _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

| I used 1,74 as vcore for a while, it should be the right value... but i get anyway crashes with mpeg files with Mplayer and mp3 with Amplifier. After i had upped it to 1,79 all is perfectly stable, the cpu doesn't get too hot.
@all Check if the coller/fan is stable on the cpu... when i received my A1 it was bad mounted. _________________ ikir |

Ahhhh, the beauty of testing a problem you can't pin point.
I've left the Amiga running overnight (Not everynight mind) playing music with AMPlifier. So far it has continued throughout the night without troubles. This, of course, is without me using the Amiga for anything else.
This evening, I have been playing a selection of .aiff & .mp3 tracks. I have just started RDesktop up & within a few minutes of surfing with FireFox the system has locked. I'm not pointing the finger at any particular application yet.
Next test. Playing music whilst surfing with IBrowse... Not tonight though. The worst part about this is when the crash causes an invalidated HD & I have to wait for the bugger to be fixed.
Incidentally, every so often this happens & I have to reformat because the HD gets damaged beyond a what standard validation process OR PartitionWizard can fix. Now THAT'S annoying.

| Couldn`t agree more - switching from ffs to sfs (classic) brought incredible performance gains for me, almost like getting scsi or a flyer! Try it and you`ll see . . . . _________________ Fraggle

I had a feeling I'd get that as from someone. I used to use SFS on my 3.9 setup but it's not a solution for the audio issue though is it.

Ah, more information.
It crashed on me again today, but only the audio broke, everything else continued to work. Until I tried to copy a file - this locked up WB. I could close down everything else I had running, but trying to reboot from the keyboard didn't work (the light on my USB hub switched off, so it at least started to reboot but didn't get any further)
So it looks like something screwy in AHI, maybe stack related? I'm going to revert back to the previous version I was using and see if this cures the problem. Tomorrow...

As I where saying install stackattack2, and setup a big stack!
after installing stackattck you post reset the stack as stackattach changes the stack size, stackattack2 is 68k programs so like snopsdos 68k it will only patch 68k jump tables (only 68k programs)
Are you doing disk to network, usb to network or usb to disk copying, or just disk to disk copying?
I do get freezes uinsg the new eth3com.device whit and whit out sound, so if you don't use the old one then try!
one more thing what type file system are you using and what version of it. is it sfs, pfs. crossdos or ffs 7 Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 02-May-2005 at 11:13 PM.
