@scabit

when entering your login name do not put the @connection.com only use the "myname".
Then it should work. i know that's how mine is configured and it works great. i'm
conected right now with that tyoe of config.

"when entering your login name do not put the @connection.com only use the
"myname"."

This particular internet connection uses the name@connection.com AS the
username.
I will however give your idea a try. So far nothing else has worked.

Thanks! I'll let you know if it works.

Scott

I tried what you suggested. It did not work.

Oh number6 for whatever reason I cannot PM on either IBrowse or AWeb.

@scabit

We can discuss the problem with PM later.
Where do you currently stand on connecting to the Internet with Roadshow?

Since you have connected with Miami, I have to ask:
What device are you using - A1serial.device, or did you possibly rename a file
at some point since December, 2004?

Best Wishes,

@scabit

Can you copy and paste into this thread the contents of your PPPoE file from your Devs/NetInterfaces drawer?

I think your problem is probably in there.

@PEB

This is the only file in my devs/netinterfaces drawer named ppp133:

# DEVS:NetInterfaces/PPP
# File generated by Dialer 50.14 (18.9.2004)
# On Wednesday, 10-Aug-05 at 19:59:54
device=ppp-serial.device

What does it mean? Should the device be a1serial.device? If so, where can I
change it?

Thanks,

Scott

@number6

"did you possibly rename a file at some point since December, 2004?"

It is likely that I renamed at least one or more library files to get them
working with Miami since I tried using Roadshow straight away when I got my
uA1-c and it gave me the same problems (I've never seen Roadshow work yet.)
After spending many days trying to configure Roadshow in December, I finally gave
up and installed Miami. However, when I renamed 68k files or copied over PPC
files, I always kept a copy of the riginal file, named either .68k or .ppc to
let me know where I had multiple libraries with the different versions. Size
usually indicated readily which version I was using.
No..Roadshow is still not working. People have examined my internet connection
files and scripts and found no problems with them.

Scott

@scabit

I am able to connect with either Roadshow or Miami.
I did NOT rename any files. I suggest you begin by trying to restore the OS4
files.
Do you by any chance have a bsdsocket.l.main in your libs: ?

Is your modem a "standalone modem with independent power supply"?
Do you have the correct serial breakout cable installed?

Best Wishes,

@scabit

I have an ethernet/DSL connection, so I am not too sure what a 56k/serial connection should look like. But I had problems just as you described until I copied the contents of someone else's devs/netinterfaces into my own. Once this was done all worked well.

So if anyone else here on AmigaWorld.net is using a 56k/serial internet connection, could you please post it here for scabit to look at?

But would it be possible for you to upgrade to DSL? I've got SBC Yahoo DSL; it is quite affordable and works well.

@scabit

You should be connecting with a1serial.device,
I think the ppp-serial.device is for linking serial port to another computer,
I used to use dial up on my A1 so ill see if still have my script and will post here when im at my miggy.

Cheers

@scabit

I think you may have messed up a little here,

# PROGDIR:Connections/UKU.conn
# File generated by Dialer 50.14 (18.9.2004)
# On Saturday, 29-Jan-05 at 11:02:12
interface="PPP"
device="a1serial.device"
unit=0
speed=115200
init="AT&F&C1&D2&K3%C0\r"
volume=4
number="yourprovidersnumberhere"
sendid=off
login="yourpasswordhere"
password="yourpasswordhere"
provider="UKU"

To have this you need to go into os4:internet/
There is something in her like new connection

Click on that then it asks how you want to connect,
Choose the option for modem,
Then t should ask for the device the modem is on (if i remember correctly there is an option to scan devices for an attached modem).

Anyway choose a1serial.device and go from here,

Once its done it will save a connection file like the one above in os4:internet/connections/

To connect to the net either go into the os4:internet/connections/ and click on the connection or there is something like open connection in os4:internet/ which you click on then choose the connection file just made.
This should then connect to your provider.
Any probs give me a shout.

Hi!

I was told to post what is in the devs:netinterfaces directory, not the
internet/connections directory. My connection file is nearly identical to yours.
it uses a1serial etc (in fact I'll post it...slightly modified...below.

It is NOT my connection file. But what file do you guys have in your
devs/netinterfaces drawer? Is it similar to the one I posted above, or does
it indeed show a1serial.device rather than ppp-serial.device?

Thanks for your help!

Scott

Yes. My A1serial connection file is very similar.
I do not see anything wrong in this file.
I am referring to the file at the bottom of your post.

Yes it shows pp-serial in devs:netinterfaces/ABEL_0808 (my old ppp dialup connection)

Quote:"Yes it shows pp-serial in devs:"...etc.
It shows "ppp-serial" in mine.

To be clear:Your comment refers to the file in post #27.
That file does not exist until it is created by the "Internet Wizard" I think.
The proof of that is looking at my "untouched" update1 & 2 CD and my "untouched"
update 1 & 2 on hard drive. The file does not exist as shipped. It is created.
Correct me if I am wrong about this please.

"That file does not exist until it is created by the "Internet Wizard" I think."

Yes, in fact, from the date and time stamp I would say it is created when you
make a new connection file OR edit and save an existing connection file.

So, the file in devs:netinterfaces is correct, and it looks like the connection
file under Internet is also correct. Any other ideas...except perhaps the
unit=0 not being in my file?

Thanks,

Scott

(1)Can you confirm that you absolutely have the correct serial breakout cable?
http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=2170&start=20
Post #23 from Software Hut. Please read.

(2)Do you have a standalone modem that has an independent power supply?
Googled your modem. OK. It is standalone with independent power supply.

(3)Are all of your original AOS4 files back with their proper names and in their
proper locations?

Best Wishes,
