You're right. I'll do that, don't worry
It would be cool if Hyperion could give a step-by-step guide on the safest backup-plan when doing a full install of Update 4 |

| @Helgis Have you tried http://www.onyxsoft.se/files/backup.lha
It makes backing up to another partition or drawer a breeze and only copies over files that have been changed after first backup, will save you a lot of time.

Of course No, i don't think i've tried that. It's a long time ago.
I simply just copied all the drawers, files, libraries. All the OS4 partition over to Diverse: and made a drawer called "Backup". It works for me

In the interest of a happy marriage... Valentines day might not be the best day to release anything. |

Maybe it would be healthier if you switched from an AmigOne to a CommodoreOne. |

| I'd like to figure out something that just came in my mind this week-end. May be Rogue could explain/answer.
During the IRC session he said : Quote:
[20:38:47] The main reason is the unavailability of hardware. As you all know, AmigaOne's are not available right now, so we are not in a position to offer an OS 4 with a matching hardware. ... [20:40:10] Hence we decided to postpone the release until such time as a hardware platform IS available.
|
and a few second later Quote:
[20:40:35] Now the good news. First of all, since we don't have OS 4 out now as planned, there will be... [20:40:39] Update #4 [20:41:06] Update #4 will come out early january, and will be again a quite comprehensive update. It will include, among other things...
|
The facts : - AOS4 is ready but not released because of lack of hardware. (that's ok for me) - but we will have a #4 update instead (update #4 that is almost what the final release will be) - january is passed, we're almost feb 6th, and no sign of update #4.
So final release is ready but not an update !! It a nonsense. Just like if Ferrari was about ro release a brand new car but can't because they have no gas to put in. But to calm Tifosi, that have gas in their garage, Ferrari will release the car but with a V6, and not with a V12.
What bother me is that Rogue didn't said "we hope to release update #4 shortly." but "..WILL come out early January.."
So the question is : Is Final AOS4 ready ?? If so, let's imagine Final transformed in Update #4 and Final release Update #1 thansformed in real Final release. (if you understand me ? :) )
Now let's imagine that Hardware was available for Chrismas 2005, does someone realy think that AmigaOS4 will have be available at the same time ??
/me waiting for Update#4 to make a clean re-install |

| @Tonton_Pascal They said os4 final is essentially done, and ud4 will be very close to what's expected for final. He did not say if that's 90%, 95%, etc, and even at 99% 'done,' there are still bugs to be found and fixed.
Time and again, it's obvious people don't understand how software is made...the last 1% remaining defects can sometimes take weeks or longer to resolve, and NO software is 100% 'bug free,' so the harder/longer you test, the more issues you uncover, although usually these are less significant defects at this point.
As a guess, I'd say they found something last minute, or one of the known open/not yet resolved defects looked like it was a simple fix, but the fix(es?) had to go 'deeper'/more invovled once they started to chase it down.
If OS4 is say 90% feature complete, that's still pretty close to done in the scheme of things, but that 10% can take a while to finish, as well as the bugs found along the way.
Regarding Xmas- they certainly could have released it, if they felt it solid enough to do so, then followed up with patches/updates as required.
