Yes, just like the final release: when it's done... and when hardware is available... and ?

@NutsAboutAmiga

I always do a backup, so i could do a fully new installment and just copy
over what i had backed up, without replacing the new files with the ones
backed up of Update 3 Fast and simple

We'll know more when Update 4 actually is out

What actually is your problem, mister? I suppose you are not an AmigaOS 4 user so any delays shouldn't piss you off, or?

@ssolie

Not a bad idea Steve.

My hard drive is a 160gig but as it was install on original Os4 it only is recognised as 128gig. And partitioned as such.

Mehtinks I'll drag the whole shooting match over to the pc and repartition the Os4 drive to account for the rest. Then drag back.

Easy this way

The update is coming along, I will release the second release candidate to the testers today. If all goes well it should be out somewhere next week. If issues pop up, it will be delayed a bit. This is hard to predict.

Thanks for the update.
Creating test partition now...

@Rogue

Thanks for this much needed news-update - I just wish that news-updates about OS4 development could become more regular. It would shut up a lot of complaining from the users.

For the time you would spend on this, you would save on not having to deal with upset users complaining about the waiting time.

just my point of view.

@Rogue

Pay no attention to the impatient ones! Most of us would rather wait a few more days and have a quality release than have a disappointing system. That goes double for critical things like filesystems.

Thank you very much for all the effort you and the rest of the crew are putting in, and make sure that your servers can handle the strain when you say "it's done!"

With the new 64/32 Bit DOS and 48/64 Bit FS will we need to re-partition our hard drives?

Cheers,

Eh? Doesn't "update" imply that update#3 is already -on- your system?

No it means it can update ANY prior version of AmigaOS4.0 to the most current one, regardless of what update you have installed.

Quote:
Doesn't "re-install" imply a "fresh complete install", like for "final"?

Re-Install means that if you have a blank harddisk with nothing on the CD can produce a working update #4 installation out of it.

@Helgis

Like ssolie already said, I'd always recommend a completely fresh install. Updating should work but you can never really be sure, especially if you have customized your system (and, who hasn't?)

No. The file system structure is the same.

@Rogue

Thank you for your reply.
Example:
(1)User installs OS4 on a fresh partition and boots from same
(2)User starts "AmigaAmp" from a different (existing) partition
(3)User tries to play a .wav file which is dependent on a third party library "sndfile.library"
(4)Because the boot partition no longer contains this file, the .wav is not played.
(This assumes that the file is located in libs: on "old boot partition")
(5)Usual thread starts assigning blame in the wrong direction

Question:Are you going to advise that third party software be re-installed to
cover for these possible issues?
Thank you.

P.S. Love the new avatar!

@Rogue

Thanks for the update, Rogue. As always, we users are just a little too impatient.

I really appreciate the effort you guys at Hyperion, the other programmers and the testers are putting into Amiga OS4.

BTW, after my demo in January, the guys at AmiCUE (the local user group) are looking forward to a demo of update 4 at the February meeting .

So, do you have that blank volume sitting there waiting for update 4 yet?

Um... ... No, we've been too busy bugging Rogue to think about that.

The installer will be able to either update or re-install the system. No prior update is required, it is an entire replacement with everything new.

To that end I'd extremely very highly recommend installing upd4 brand new on a brand new formatted partition. Back that up and then reinstall all your software on top of that. Now is the time to back things up and prep. for update 4 while you are waiting.

Thanks for the suggestion, Steven.
