I visited and one thing struck me very Amiga like: "3/11/2006 - Official launch of sam440.com" One year later and still not available. I am more interested on what to run on the SAM and how the license issue is coming than the availability of hardware however. They have had to be working on this problem for at least a year. It actually gives me reason to loose hope. |
One year later???
Sorry but the date was referring to the web site not the board. Anyway from November until today only 4 months and a half are passed. And the date of launch for the board has been set to the end of first quarter of 2007 from the beginning.
EDIT: The date is written in this format: DD/MM/YYYY, maybe you read it as MM/DD/YYYY
Regards

I was assuming the date reffered to the web site creation. I was reading the date as MM/DD/YYYY. Thank you for correcting me. Hopefully they had the sense to have the license in positive negotiations before starting. There is hope after all!

do you know sth about it?
and the all-dull all-around question: will there be any info about OS4 licence for sam440?
14 days to go... i'll start counting ;) |

| So, is there hardware available for sale now that I can run OS4 on? (I see references to ACube, Sam440, and Powervixxen...but nothing about OS4 licensing nor purchase information)
Are we still a ways off?
(I know I promised not to come back till Jan '08...but it gets boring in the desert) :)

Well thats a big njaaaaaaaa!
Since there is a court case going on between the parties involved I don't think you can expect anything to be resolved any time soon. But you never know cause all of a sudden things may work out (judge has invited the parties to settle out of court but that road looks to be untrodden).
Still OS4 works pretty good to date and it looks as though some nifty hardware is possible within a short time span so, once again, you never know!
But if I were you I wouldn't bet my canteen on it! Last edited by Steff on 08-Jun-2007 at 06:51 AM.

Well then. Maybe I'll stick around for a while then. Do you guys need someone else to whine about the current situation? :)

Wow. Court case, eh? I need to start pouring through the forums and catching up!

In Jan 2005 I had cash-in-hand and even purchased a mini-ITX case in anticipation of buying a uA1c (is that what they were called? I can't remember). Swapped emails back and forth with several resellers but could never get anything purchased. Two and a half years later and I am still trying...simply because I want to play with OS4! I know it won't be as feature-complete as the linux and OS X boxes I use day-to-day...but that is fine. I will have lots of room in my home office...and would very much like to add an OS4 system to the mix. |

Do you have a Classic Amiga? Then you might want to purchase OS4 Classic from your local dealer. _________________ Philippe 'Elwood' Ferrucci Sam460 1.10 Ghz AmigaOS 4 betatester Amiga Translator Organisation |

so you've ONLY been waiting 3 years. ? gee u have it good. it've been waiting since zico. in 2005 i put 3 thousand down as 100% deposit with doug moir. i regularly ring him once a month and he regularly finds a new excuse for me every month why he cant refund my money. he he at least mcbill's promises are free. and i am one of those 'new' users that we all talk about coming to the platform, impressed with this 'amiga machine' winge mode off _________________ Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway.

No it's very much alive and kicking! In the meantime you could always purchase the d/l version of Amiga Forever and spruce it up with an AmiKit d/l to get a classic Amiga fix under emulation.

Short answer: No. Long answer: You're not going to get OS4 legally released for any new platforms (like Sam440Ep) until the court case has ended (anyone know how that is going?). Alternatively, there are people working on getting OS4 booting on old Mac hardware, but the legality of this is very much in question. |

Your determination is admirable, but we're just not going to see hardware for a long while (if ever) because of the court cases, licencing issues.....
Might I suggest one of these as alternatives until something better comes up.......
Amiga Forever on PC or
AROS - Amiga Compatible OS for PC
At least you can put them on new hardware.
