Your hardware is only a target specification for a classic version of OS4.

My understanding (and I have no insider knowledge) is that not all the plethera of classic add-ons, wil be or can be supported.
Simply because the source code for the required drivers are either commercial, or not available any more.
I would imagine a Classic/PPC OS4 release would have to be on specific hardware options for viability, the same as the A1 is specific hardware.

You can only hope your classic PPC hardware is of the required spec.

Greetz

Sorry - but you forgot the most important:
"can only be developed by teams of people who know exactly how to code for the Amiga"

Right - you only can work for an employer - not for an OS - be it commercial or not!
(although you could work on an commercial OS, but then the owner would be your employer...)

Sure, where can I download/buy AOS4 to help it?

As elwood (and myself) said: You need not do this. Get AmigaForever (or if you own a Miggy, WinUAE) and start work.
...

WinUAE on a Miggy?

Didn't know that Windows applications run natively on an Amiga...

@Dandy

I guess he meant to use WinUAE (on Windows, obviously) and extract the ROM from your Amiga. Otherwise you'd have no legal ROM image and Amiga Forever would be the route to take.

@Dandy

he says: get AmigaForever (which is for PC) unless you have one Amiga, that way you can legally use WinUAE (again for PC).

The Amiga clause here is meant to avoid legality issues...

You don't actually need to buy any tools to develop for OS4. The SDK can be downloaded for free

And this SDK would run on my A4kPPC?

I don't know of any crosscompilers built for AmigaOS 3.x, but you should be able to built them yourself... the sources are here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/adtools

But this still leaves me with the problem that I have not enough spare time available on a regular basis.
My family (wife, daughters, grandson) lives in one city and I work in annother.
Because of the work I had to rent an apartment in the town where I work and so I can see my family just every second weekend.
So sorry - no, but I prefer to stay a user/customer...

Even if you can't code (I can't myself) you still can do a lot:
- translation
- betatesting
- writing documentation
- project management, write down what you want as a user and find someone to code your app
- helping Amiga website teams

I'm with Amiga for the long haul. I'm a classic user right now but I am waiting on the new stuff whenever that comes out.

Should be more people like you!

Despite all the negative whining, I think the new hardware will come even if it does take time. It certainly does not hurt to keep an eye on things for when they do happen.

Hope to see you on an AmigaOne soon!

If you liked the classic, I think you will really enjoy OS4. You should see if there is anyone near you with an A1 to try it out.

That's it! This is the positive attitude I love.
I realy do hope Classic users are saving money to buy new hardware when it's available. This is a required step to reach our goal.

@hnl_dk

Very true. Happiness is a synonym of Amiga very often.

@Hans

Just took a look at the AmiDevCPP but unfortunately there isn't a linux version (I switched over exclusively to Ubuntu Linux a couple of months ago)...

One thing I've been doing is messing around with SDL (think DirectX for linux) and I've noticed that there is a version of SDL for the Amiga, which would make the conversion process for my little game alot easier...

...although unfortunately at the moment I still lack a development environment for an AOS4 port...maybe when i've finished developing my linux app, I can find someone with an Amiga to help convert it over to AOS4...or by that time...there might be some tools to assist in cross developing it...

Sorry. I didn't realize you were looking for something that works on Linux. For cross-compilers look here. You'll have to find your own IDE/code-highlighting-editor as I have never really done any development on Linux.

@Troika

You don't feel any guilt at all for raising people's hopes without providing any substance? I'm asking you directly again: Has Amiga, Inc. granted a license for your hardware? Why do the people involved in Troika stay anonymous when most potential customers and others interested would like to know who is involved and what your credentials are?

A lot of people, maybe not here where people are clinging desperately to any hope at all, but out there in the cold world where feel-good talk alone doesn't go very far, think Troika is nothing but yet another Amiga market fraud. No offense meant, but unfortunately for you, pretty much everything you have said and done makes that easier to believe. It'd be good if you could present something substantial and authenticated for a change IMHO.
