| I'll buy when there is anything to buy that will run OS4. I don't see much point in voting in another poll.

I guess we will never see that. Just like I think we'll never see a G5 machine running OS4. _________________ The only spanish amiga news web page/club: CUAZ |

I think there's a pretty good chance that we'll see that, it's an SoC after all so making a design around it should not be much more difficult than the Samantha. My only worry is that the MPC8641 will be overpriced like the 7448. |

| I still can't understand the utility of this kind of poll about hardware that doesn't exist (or the one about the interest of OS4 on PS3) ... or at least is not available. What is the interest on dreaming about stuff that won't come and will lead to disappointment ?
As I am answering, I have to say that I was rather convinced by the Sam board I saw 10 days ago. But I still need to see it working with at least Linux in a first time. |

Choose your AmigaOS4 Hardware
I took the high road here and voted for all the hardware listed.
What I really want is an Amiga laptop or Amiga tablet style machine with wireless LAN capabilities running AmigaOS4 + a very good web browser + email client + remote desktop client capable of accessing my MicroA1 + our WindowsXP machines. If this machine was powerful enough to also run Final Writer 97, then that would be nice too.
My family already owns two PC's running WindowsXP, a laptop running WindowsXP, a MicroA1 running AmigaOS4, several game machines, a semi-retired Amiga 2000HD, and three retired computers.
At the moment, we use our computers mainly for browsing the internet, email and games. My son plays high end games on one of the Windows computers.

| I voted for the PowerVixxen LT ONLY. If it requires me to have a new computer to run AmigaOS 4 then forget it. I already have a MicroA1-c and it has been trouble for me.
note: I'm in an unusual financial situation with some government benfits and can only have one computer newer than 5 years old. Having a usable computer that's 13 years old would be best for me. As for my ONE computer five years old or newer, it will probably be a laptop of some sort. I've never owned a laptop before.

| I voted "None of the above" seeing as these systems would just plain be too low end for the stuff I'd like to undertake, and I already have one too many custom PPC door stoppers/boat anchors (i.e. very unstable MicroA1) and I'm not sure I'd like to invest another $2,000USD and a few months to gamble on and source compatible parts to outfit another system. I may reconsider if someone comes out with a complete system that packs enough decent horse power.
My ideal would be a wireless laptop system to use and develop for AOS4, but I don't think this will ever happen in my lifetime at this point.

Seems you can remove the PowerVixxen TL from the list. From what I heard Amiga Inc treated ACK with the silent treatment after the initial contact. Adam got tired of this and seems to have dropped OS4 support completely.
Hopefully it could change in the future but I wouldn't hold my breath. Amiga Inc. 18 months into their final goal of killing AmigaOS!

I haven't seen any news item on that. Is that taken from IRC chatter? One more rumor for the Amiga mill.

I'm sure that plenty of people who spend time in irc have further info. Whether they choose to post such info in a thread is a different question. We'll see. Frankly I would much rather have the developer speak for himself, especially in a case where a change of direction and focus is being reported. This basically puts the people who have posted about Adam in the position where their information will be called "opinion" unless they also post the source.
btw-we may just have gone hopelessly off-topic

Strictly speaking, since the poll question asks "which class of hardware", it isn't actually asking about the specific models (leaving questions of availability aside), but rather about the class each one represents -- in terms of processor speed, form factor, etc. But I'm not sure if readers are taking it this way.
It's a shame Bill McEwen didn't say outright what hardware was being considered for a license. That would focus the discussion a lot (to put it mildly).
Anyway, since polls like this -- at this stage with no official word -- are basically fantasy exercises, one choice listed is just as valid as any other.
