@utri007

That was just my way of saying it was a joke, as risky as they can be...

I'm still in the market for the PowerVixxen LT should it materialise. I like the idea of transforming my A1200 more than building a new desktop, so another motherboard would have to be a compelling combination of price and spec.

Hey, hey, I'm Amiga...

No?

As to the rest of your list, I think you should've included News Corp. What would Amiga be without a 'colorful' character like Rupert?

You know what would be really surpsing?... Eyetech! I'd say its either them, or a large well known company.

@jahc

It would also suprise me if it was Amiga Inc. But Eyetech also crossed my mind.

Anyway as long hardware becomes available soon I don't care from who, no need to be picky even if it was from Genesi.

As a joker there's also the PS3 to keep an eye on.

and the source may surprise some

ACK? Nope - wouldn't be overly surprising if he'd got the A1200 add-ons to work.
SAM? Nope - most of us are sort of expecting that progress continues at a good pace.

Troika? Surely not. Would they dare to put out yet another announcement without anything really, really, really concrete to show (eg hardware actually running something)

That leaves 2 more possibilities...

Genesi? That would be surprising, unless Hyperion are really, really, really convinced that OS4 is theirs.

And finally...

Amiga Inc?

Now that would be surprising.

All of those would be surprising IMHO, but for different reasons (and yet not). ACK would be surprising since he has never been able to show any results during all this time, even though he has promised to do so at several specific times. But his projects are known, so from that POV it won't be much of a surprise. SAM would be surprising as well; that they already have the motherboard finished and ready. But just as ACK, the Samantha board is well known and not much of a surprise by itself. Troika would be most surprising IMHO. I have considered Troika to be some kind of a joke/prank/hoax since day one and this far I have seen no reason to change my mind about that. It would be really surprising if they actually have made a big order for "Pandas" to sell to the community á la Eyetech, but again, this is a known thing and not so much of a big surprise by itself (and I'm not sure who would want a Panda anyway?). Genesi would be quite surprising IMHO. Like the above mentioned, the Genesi projects are well known, but have always been ruled out by default for some reason.

One common denominator for all of the above mentioned is that no-one have an OS4 license, and given the past history and the info we have at present, it would be really surprising if anyone (and I mean *anyone*) actually manage to obtain a license. Genesi seems to have an alternative plan though, who knows, maybe this the "surprise" they are talking about is related to this...? (For the record, I doubt it though)

In a way, Amiga Inc is less of a hardware company than Hyperion is. I mean, at least Hyperion has experience from working with hardware, while Amiga Inc doesn't have any experience from working at all! So no, Amiga Inc is not an option IMHO...

That would be surprising in the sense that Eyetech has since long gone away, and they left with a few bitter comments that showed some disappointment towards the whole situation IMHO. On the other hand, Eyetech is the only one with a valid license (if they have the right to dub any kind of hardware as "AmigaOne", which they at least have done in the past (three different motherboards)), so in a sense, Eyetech would be the least of the surprising options. But I think maybe Alan Redhouse feels kind of burned by his earlier attempts to make money on this "market", so unless someone (maybe someone of the above mentioned) have made him a really attractive offer, I don't think Eyetech is a realistic guess...

What would be *really* surprising is that someone not heard of in this context before (Individual Computers for example) or that someone since long ruled out player (thinking of Elbox) would enter the scene, or even more if a complete outsider joins!

Well, only one more week till we find out!

Or it is a Dave Haynie/Carl S joint venture?

I'm putting my money on either ACK having something in secret ready to rock (as a joint venture with Indiv Computers) or Genesi doing the impossible and getting a license from Amiga Inc.

@acefnq
I thought it was quite an accurate summary of the current situation, and although I don't normally read long posts, in this case I found it fairly interesting (if not telling me anything new).

Hmmm

I know one thing...it isn't Genesi....why? Simple...Bill B would be screaming it from the rooftops and posting like crazy on his blog!

I'm not going to add to the conjecture, I'll wait and see what (if anything) comes along in the new year.

ACK unfortunately isn't a name I can associate with reliability :( We've been down this road before with announcements and with those imminent demonstrations etc, which all came and passed with nothing.

So unless Rogue or someone from Hyperion can confirm that this significant announcement will happen in January, then I won't be too disappointed.. But yes of course I want some good news
