| OS5 in the works for 2 years now, the whole Hyperion-AInc-property change mess, the two ACube projects (one of which being the MiniMac port of OS4!!!), McEwen's correspondance with Olaf Barthel...
That's FAR better than a novel I should say!
Problem is, I'm not sure (as somebody has already said) that all this legal nightmare will result somehow useful for us poor Amigans waiting for OS4 and/or new hardware to run it on.
Unless the lawsuit ends as soon as possible, that is.
EDIT: reworded the phrase about MiniMac port Last edited by Turrican3 on 27-May-2007 at 09:04 PM.

Ah, Gateway still owns all the patents. Amiga Inc. has a licence on these patents.
I wonder what kind of license agreement that is. Last edited by PulsatingQuasar on 27-May-2007 at 11:14 AM.

I'm wondering what the stumbling block with this offer was. |
Quite simple: Hyperion can only sell what is theirs, and they don't own the rights to much of the OS. If some of the subcontractors don't want to transfer ownership of their work, Hyperion cannot do anything about that. |

That depends. If this pathetic bickering keeps continuing I'd rather have them step in and revoke all licenses to their patents and stick everything in the fridge at 0 Kelvin. Last edited by PulsatingQuasar on 27-May-2007 at 11:22 AM.

Shouldn't the "We have offered 2 million to Hyperion for OS 4 and the assumption of all depts and contracts" be of some help here ? For instance A Inc buying the contract Hyperion has with the Friedens? (Doubt it can be done that way, but if everybody agrees with that?)
/edit; seems Bill had thought of that... Last edited by Seer on 27-May-2007 at 11:53 AM.

| I'm just hoping that this whole mess gets sorted out soon... And that they release OS4 for classic machines... (esp the 1200, mine is waiting for it)
It's also be really nice if the Freidens got to keep working on OS4, they've done a good job thus far :) _________________ Back to action! |

Having read that document/chat, if Bill is telling the thruth to the Frieden brothers it seems that they had (have hopefully then) some great things in store for Amiga OS...
I wonder what a Amiga with Disney project could have been..

He's probably referring to the case designs three Disney artists designed for Amiga Inc a couple of years ago, as shown at AmiWest. |

Maybe if Hyperion weren't so greedy and dodgy we would have OS4 on the PS3 by now. |

Is it too late to change votes in the who we support poll? Looks like things are changing yet again. Oh well there is always the net release of documents.
I wonder where thing would be now if the "buy back" had gone smoothly? OS4 cell phone would have been cool. |

I doubt that team would form as well, but maybe there could be cooperation there(?)

| It makes a very interesting read. It also begs the question as to how much the OS is worth, and what i mean by that is how much would someone be willing to pay for it given the current market and future prospects? (I don't mean development cost, but a calculation based on current and prospective profitability).
Would $2 million be the price, given that it could be released/developed into other platforms?
I'd be interested to know Amiga's view on this too, because i think they are pining their future on it, and i think we can see that by how much they are paying to have their name on the Kent centre.

Yes my friend, that was an interesting read, too...
Question is, can we believe everything Mr. McEwen's saying about his apparently ambitious plans?
It seems to me there are far too many things we don't know (yet) about this soap-opera, so I prefer to refrain from hoping that one party will take over the other one: as I said before, I just hope that the operating system I prefer the most will be able to come back. |
