@Earthling

More like sub $10, and given its lack of modern web-browser that's pushing things a bit on price.

Commodore(as an x86 PC vendor) could put AROS on a flashcard and have something like the Splashtop Browser which comes up without the need of a HD.
Of course they'd need to throw a little money into Firefox porting.
Either that or allow a dual boot into Windows with either AROS(or the unholy OS5).

Somewhere down the track a hypervisor in some form of BIOS will allow multiple OSes to run simultaneously.

@AmigaBlitter

Please no Acer or pc. I had 2500 problems checking with EasyCleaner and even after that it jamms all the day. The winner viruschecker running (F-Secure).
End of the last Year bought "New" that pc. A 20 year old A1200 or this AmigaOne is 100x faster and more reliable. Or maybe it is the BillGates Vista to be the problem? I don't suggest that os to anyone. Run out of 2GB memory, trying to do some usefull stuff. Now when loosing my nerves, with "only" 512MB and os4 it works. Only if we had some programs and good net with working sites...

Is it possible that Commodore have already contacted amiga and amiga refused any possible commercial proposal?

I'm sorry... But I fail to see: what for ?

What would CBM (or any company) do today with a 15 years outdated software/hardware ?

So, what's left ?

- the name: I don't think there's much left of it... It only brings back 90' memories to certain people...
- A500: yeah... that's probably the only point that could bring something: releasing some kind of Amiga in a Joystick

No, they appear to have decided to not go ahead with it:

Quote:
Tulip Computers N.V. (Tulip) has decided not to make a bid for Commodore International Corporation (CIC). On 26 September 2007, Tulip announced that it considered making a bid for all shares in CIC. Tulip is considering whether other forms of cooperation are possible.

The reason why the bid is not carried through is that Tulip has insufficient certainty about the possibility to attract sufficient external financing for the further development of the Commodore business in the short term.

Hi,

there`s nothing to stop Commodore from producing an Amiga, all they have to do is sign an agreement with Amiga. No need to buy up Amiga so the spare cash can be put into research and development of a new Amiga. It`d be nostalgic to see the words "Commodore Amiga" on a new Amiga and if they have got a good business sense they could be just what we need.

There`s also nothing to stop other companies such as Dell from producing new Amigas afterall Dell is dabbelling with Linux. Maybe someone could persuade them to try Amiga OS?

Commodore Amiga
Dell Amiga
HP Amiga
Acer Amiga
IBM Amiga

Take your pick.

Andy.

i actually emailed commodore about a year ago and asked if they plan to have any involvment with amiga, to my surprise i got a reply and they said on a minor level but they have no plans to produce a new amiga computer. they did not specify but it sounds like they wouldnt bundle OS4 with their PC's if it ran on x86...

as for those other companies, there is zero chance ... none of them see any value in amiga OS. Were lucky to have discreet fx interested, id rather see amiga with them than hyperion and Ainc... it mite actually grow under them...

afaik, Commodore (CIC) had not even paid Tulip what they owed as of the date of your quoted article.

Yes, that would be cool and the thought had already crossed my mind with regards to your systems. The thing you speaking of - bare metal client hypervisors - is already here though. Check out Citrix System's XenClient hypervisor - soon to be embedded on many vendor's laptops/desktops. I believe that other than VMware, that there are at least 2 other, but much smaller, vendors having made announcements in this space as well - too lazy to dig them up at the moment. Only problem at the moment is that many if not all of these are primarly aimed at the corporate market and not at Joe consumer, so not available on lower-end x86 hardware. If you're truely interested, Google "client hypervisors" and I'm sure you'll find lots of interesting stuff.

Out of curiosity, which Q&A session with Bill are you speaking of? Could you provide a link to the article if you have it handy? Thanks!

@elatour

BigBen's post above is from 2007, and not very relevant today.

Bill answered questions about a month earlier, which were posted on amiga.org.

Amiga Inc answers your questions (updated)

I don't get any search hits for "Commodore" in this q/a.

A month later...

I don't get any search hits for Commodore in the Temple of Technology interview (3 pages) either.

A couple of clarifications" from Bill McEwen

No mention of "Commodore" by Bill there either

Here's your quote

Quote:
31) Do you have any contact with the current Commodore company?

NDA s do not allow me to answer that question.
