If part of your reference is to OS3.x program compatibility with OS4.x, we have fairly recent threads thanks to @Scabit's efforts.

Well, it is for both native OS4 and previous AOS software compatible with OS4. Good to see it is updated.

@Scabit
Thank you for the updates to the list of software available.

@All

Isn't it worthwile to keep all this information in one and a dedicated place, like THIS?
Unfortunately this site gets a bit covered in dust; it could use a bit more attention from A1 owners (and wannabees alike).

- Audio/sound
Audio Evolution (professional music editing/recording/mixing)

-Internet security
OS4 ip stack Roadshow has all ports closed by default. If you are not installed and running any server softaware yourself this should be enough to be secure. And there's ip filter (Roadshow is based on BSD) in Roadshow which is a good firewall IMHO when configured right (it's very complicated). And there's example configuration on OS4 final CD.

-CD
MakeCD

-Emulation
There's a lot of emulators on os4depot.net: here and here F.ex. Vice (Commodore machines)

-IRC
Wookiechat

-Security
fs_encrypt_plugin you can encrypt your HD partitions. I think OS4 is the most secure AmigaOS and the most secure Amiga API compatible OS (HD encryption and firewall "ip filter").

Lots of useful information there, thanks.

I was referring to the applications not the Amiga in general (being better than...)

So I was asking if there are any applications that are already available in other OSs or better or need creating from scratch. I have learnt this from Tomppeli:

-Internet security
OS4 ip stack Roadshow has all ports closed by default. If you are not installed and running any server softaware yourself this should be enough to be secure. And there's ip filter (Roadshow is based on BSD) in Roadshow which is a good firewall IMHO when configured right (it's very complicated). And there's example configuration on OS4 final CD.

And that comes new to me and it's very reassuring and interesting! Great news!

Sorry you had a stressful day.

Add the following areas:
Scanner software
Well ImageFX4 has Epson/HP scanner support (works 'sort of' with my HPScanjet5p)
Will test again Scantrax and betascan if they work with latest OS4 (have HPScanjet5p)

Webcam software

I was completely unaware of this. I don't really need it right now because my router blocks access to Samba shares. However, it would be great if Roadshow had a configuration GUI for this, instead of it being a hidden feature.

I agree with you, it would be nice to have a GUI for the ip filtering and all the firewall functions.

@Hans + all

There's "IP-filter" drawer in "Documentation" drawer on AmigaOS4.0 CD. And that example ruleset is in Documentation/Examples/IP-filter/AmigaExample and more examples in Documentation/Examples/IP-filter/Rules. Configuring IP-filter and making those rulesets is very complicated IMO so these examples are very nice.

If there's somebody who's a ip-filter ruleset wizard and knows how to make AOS applications with a GUI that person should try to do it.

How is Papyrus Office compatibility with OS4 coming along?

This would allow some compatibility with MSWord

I don't know the amount of work behind Ruby on Rails. I like to do things step by step. Today, we have a basic port of Ruby. If it is useful (and used !), the port must be improved. Then, we can add external modules (Rubygame, GUI stuff for easy using, ...).

It ain't coming along. Find out all you need to know here:
http://www.rom-logicware.com/current.htm

They do not mention Amiga or OS4 on their site.

Wrong website. Look here. Titan computer did a Morphos port. They said that they would commit to doing an Amiga OS4 version if they received 100 preorders and a machine. Apparently they got both, but decided not to anyway. There's more to it than that; IIRC, one of their developers had a serious accident putting a damper on any development.

My understanding is that the OS4 version probably won't happen, but they might fix up the 68k version enough that it will run.
