Plainly, I don't know. I know for sure that I will get a load of personal E-mail again, it has always been that way and I don't really mind as long as people don't start nagging for an answer after ten minutes (don't laugh, that happened more than once; some guy once sent me the same email again and again over a day with "why haven't you replied yet" added).

Heh, just a few hours ago I read the "10 mistakes to avoid when using e-mail", one of those was "Give the recipient 24 hours to reply, don't call or send new e-mails before that"

That's better. :) I knew what you meant, but others reading the thread may not.

The point, though, is clear - a modern PC can emulate a PPC as well as a 68060. There's no reason why a 4GHz PC can't easily match a 160MHz 603e in speed. And anyway, the main point is it'd allow anyone with a PPC to run AmigaOS 4.

On the other hand, WinUAE is not the real Amiga experience even on OS3.9 or just games, so I'm not completely in favour of a PPC core to WinUAE even if someone tries it, as it may give a false impression of the beauty that is OS 4.

@Spirantho:

With no new Amiga PPC hardware available at the moment and in the forseeable future (lawsuit) adding PPC to WinUAE could be the only way to bring OS4 to the 'masses' for a long time to come. Waiting on new, licensed PPC hardware can be a time consuming matter.

@Amiga_3k

It's not like a PPC emulation for UAE writes itself in zero time, either.

Perhaps as a installer of replacement windshield glass that sometimes you have to go around smashing windshields in order to increase your business...

Hehe... true, if I had to do it then I guess we'd start believing in 're-birth' and hoping I'd return as a talented programmer .

More seriously, I probably think too easy about this but I was thinking in the lines of creating a link between the current UAE and something like PearPC using something like the powerpc.library.

Naturally, a port to available hardware would be ideal...

Hi all.

I have just spoken to Elbox regarding the SharkPPC.

Initially the guy I spoke with said that he COULD NOT speak about it. On pressing him he stated that the board exists and is being developed for AmigaOS4.

I asked him if there were legal reasons why SharkPPC were not yet available.
He replied, "Hyperion are adamant that no extra licensing is required from A.inc for the support of SharkPPC in AmigaOS4".

The availability of SharkPPC drivers in AmigaOS4 are required and then SharkPPC will be made available.

Additionally he felt that support for DMA PCI cards in AmigaOS4 mediator based machines should not be hard to develop....

@Rogue, how far from the truth is this?

Too sad that it appearently was not possible for Rogue to answer this question in the course of the last one and a half years - I'd be interested in this anwer, too...

@Dandy

Possibly the reason is that as Rogue has said several times (IIRC), Hyperion has never been approached or contacted by Elbox.

Finally I got some time to work on my OS4classic installation on my A4kPPC in Micronk`s BigTower, Mediator with Voodoo4 graphical card, Terratec512i digital soundcard and 10/100mBit NIC.

First issue I have is that on reboot the OS tells me that the "LoadMonDrvs failed with returncode 10 - the Voodoo file is not executable" and then comes up in LowRes. How can I make the system boot with the preset Picasso mode (e.g.1024x768)?

Second issue is how can I make my NIC in the Mediator work?
If I type the IP of my router in the address line of IBrwse I get the message that there is no route to that device or so.

I did a "show config" and got this - maybe it is of help:

Board (ELBOX): Prod=2206/33($89E/$21)
(@$40000000, size 16meg, subsize same)
Board (ELBOX): Prod=2206/161($89E/$A1)
(@$60000000, size 512meg, subsize same)
PCI BOARDS:
Bus Device Funct. Manuf. Product Status
0x00 0x01 0x00 0x121A 0x0009 working
0x00 0x03 0x00 0x10EC 0x8139 working
0x00 0x04 0x00 0x1319 0x0801 workingCHIP), at
