| RadeonHD Driver - a 2D driver for Amiga OS 4.x that drives Radeon X1000 series and higher cards which is currently under development. The driver is being developed using Radeon X1550 and Radeon HD 2400 pro PCI cards as test hardware. See the project's webpage for more details.
Here's a quick progress update: compositing for R5xx chipsets is done. This is a big milestone since this means that R5xx based cards (Radeon X1000) series have full 2D hardware acceleration.

How much work from the R5xx driver is transferable to a new R6xx driver?

Voted for further x1550 deveopment, but going to buy HD2400 (as a second card, r9250 already ordered). Could do some beta-tests if needed.
PS. It should be a news (+ a link to the "donate" button) _________________

| Congratulations for your work! I have voted for Hardware accelerated 2D blitter for R6xx cards, if the support for the R5xx by AMD is being dropped, I believe that such cards might be already hard to find when the driver will be ready.

This is a good news, now we go to the software games and programs that use these drivers. |

The Framebuffer and sprite stuff is common, but the GPU itself is very different. There are similar principles, but none of the blitter code can be reused. What I've learnt in implementing the R5xx stuff will come in handy though.

| Good to hear some news. You complete first the driver for R5xx before going on to R6xx :) Better having one good working then 2 halfway

Maybe Hans should explain what possible to do in a special order, for example (easily, less easily,...., verry hard).
Maybe a more complete driver is better than 2D for lots of GFX PCI cards ????

Ah, wonderful! Finally! Great work! Again, Amiga will be even more fun to use!

I fully agree on that. Complete first the drivers for R5xx with perfection, before moving over to R6xx. I'm surprised compositing on the R5xx is winning in your pool. I guess Amiga geeks just can't get enough of their obsolete hardware. Personally, I'd take the work you've completed and move forward. Split the compositing bits into a separate project, with a focus on the R6xx hardware. Once both are completed, backport (or whatever) the compositing bits to earlier devices, assuming there's still a demand.
In the meantime, find a way to resell 9250 cards through a third-party as a way to finance your development efforts. By resell, I mean either directly, with the third-party drop-shipping to customers, or indirectly via a vendor like AmigaKit. That vendor could give users two options, a base 9250 or a slightly more expensive 9250 that includes a donation to your project and maybe a gimmicky add-on like a boing ball sticker. That accomplishes two things: 1. development funds for you; 2. an interim compositing solution for users. Everyone wins and supports a platform they love. _________________ Sam440ep-flex 733 MHz/1 GB RAM/Radeon 9250/AmigaOS4.1 Update 2 borked A1200/Blizzard1260+SCSI-IV/Z4+MediatorZIV/Deneb/Voodoo3/CatweaselMk3 more borked A1200/MBX1200z/Indivision A500/clockport/RRNet A600/A603 |

| Yaay.. more worthwhile graphics cards 8)
Thing is, as one of the computer magazines showed a year or so ago, wish I could rememebr what the title was, never mind the issue number, they had how to set up the values on the Radeon card, to output PAL RGB signals, on the VGA output, normal display, to feed into RGB SCART etc.
Would this be useable for running modern machines on classic TVs, possibly, since LCDs seem to only want VGA on VGA etc? or a way of getting componant from VGA?
Only to be considered if its relatively trivial to implement of course.. far more important things to do, such as try and find the origional, non encrypted HDMI connection codes for true HD displays. 8)
Thank you 8)

I was surprised with this too. My thoughts were that people would jump at the latest and greatest that they can plug into their machines. I do understand that people would want something to be fully usable sooner rather than later.
I hope that people realize that hardware compositing != 3D support. Compositing uses the 3D capabilities, but it's no Warp3D/OpenGL driver. 3D drivers are planned, of course, but things need to be taken one step at a time.

Most cards tend to have an s-video out on them. However, TV-out is a low priority. To be honest, more and more people are getting HD TV's with HDMI inputs, so the need for it is dropping.

I can already output to HDMI with a DVI to HDMI connector. Radeon HD 2000 series and higher cards are also capable of streaming audio over the HDMI connection, but that's yet another task on the to-do list. In the mean-time, connecting an additional cable from the sound-card works just fine.
