Just thought I'd post an update of modern/commercial games that I'd gotten working with OS4.1 on my Sam440:
* Myst (not tested for long + no hacks required).
* The Shadow of the Third Moon (not tested for long + needs NallePuh for sound).
* Doom, using PrBoom or DoomAttack (PrBoom seems better, but DoomAttack does work if you use "SoundFx only" with DAMusic_DoomSndLibrary.plugin and needs NallePuh for sound).
* Payback (I've previously posted detailed instructions on getting this to work).
* Wipeout 2097 (EDIT: Now works! Thanks to MiniGL v2.1)
* Quake (using the OS4 port, and lots of mods seem to work with it too! Don't bother with GLQuake.).
* Quake 2 (using Capehill's port, and hardware rendering works too).
* Quake 3 (using Capehill's ioQuake3 port).
* No Gravity (rather slow though, and needs some tweaks to make it start).
* edit: Abuse (really good action shooter, reminds me a bit of Turrican)

Stuff that might be useful for getting old games to work:
* QuickFix for OS4.1! And *avoid* the debug kernel if all else fails.
* MiniGL v2.1 (edit: added!)
* Nalle Puh
* CIAgent
* Blitzen
* RTGmaster OS4 fix (installed over RTGmaster).
* Telling the Grim Reaper to Ignore all DSIs, if you get any.
* Games that directly access the CD drive need to use unit 3 on "sii3114ide.device" for a properly configured Sam440.
* (probably other stuff that I forgot...)

Games that I have NOT been able to get working yet, despite a lot of trying:
* Descent 2 (OS4 port d2x-sdl).
* Bubble Heroes RTG (I got this *nearly* working, by replacing it's copy of lowlevel.library, plus using NallePuh & an AmigaInput joystick, plus NOT using the debug kernel).
* Napalm (managed to get it to show scrolling Napalm logo before it hangs).
* Descent (no version of ADescent or plain Descent work for me, although I believe it may have worked on OS4.0).
* Genetic Species (would LOVE to get this game working).
* AB3D 2 RTG (would LOVE to get this game working).
* Heretic 2 (seems stupid this doesn't work, but I gather they used lots of hacks to make it work fast enough on Classic PPC Amigas).

@ChrisH

Thanks Chris. That's really a nice list to have here. I have Wasted Dreams, I think that I have to try it again on Sam.

@ChrisH
What about "Exodus the Last war" ? Did you manage to run it at least ? (i still can't on my peg2). What about "Earth2010" ? If i remember right, it works on my peg2.
And what about for example: NightLong, Shogo, Foundation, The Feeble Files ?

I'am for example managed to run Descent2 with no problems. Works fine. There is my video which showing that (starting from 8:30 and up to 9:35 - that is Descent2 "d2x-sdl")

Also as far i remember, the game called "SoftwareTycoon" works. And if i remember right "CrossfireII" works too.

@all and @mods

Imho will be nice idea, to have making some link at top of website, which will be called "old commercical games on os4.1 and how manage to run it". Becouse i see many topics related to it on different sites, but that all not structured, and noone exactly know how, what and where these old games are works on not. Maybe need to make a some "sub-forum", where ppls will ask about , etc.. I can for example write about some games and how manage to run it, etc.

@kas1e and @ thread

Go to www.blitterwolf.com, and go to the testing page of the site

or direct link here : http://www.blitterwolf.com/testing.html

there you will find your answers on Exodus the last war, crossfire 2, and much much more.

Much software has been tested, games, etc, but in recent, due to family illnesses, I have had not much time the last coupe of months to do what i would desire.

However, times are a changing, and things might be looking up in one way for the continuation of updating the site, monthly pages, etc, inclusive of ports, which reminds me, the next beta port that damo manages to complete for testing, I will place onto our site again. Stargus should have every map working for it.

Sorry for not being around the last two months, but it seems my Oma will depart this earth soon.

Bye

Will update the site again this weekend, including the testing page

@Gebrochen
I looked there before, but it doesn't give any real information about HOW you got it to work, or on which machine(s), or on what version(s) of OS4.

@ChrisH

Ok, will update on weekend, to state, SAM440EP OS4.1, as this is where all my testing is done, on my machine

Cheers

P.S. HANG ON

Just read this in the testing page information

"Tested using SAM440EP and OS4.1. If you managed to get something working that we tested, and is displayed as not working, feel free to pass us an email explaining how you got it working."

So no need to update this page I geuss.

EDIT
BTW, If people want to know how we got something to work, due to them having difficulty, we do have cntact information via email.
END EDIT

@Gebrochen
Consider this a request as to how you got these games to work:
* Wipeout 2097 (demo)
* Heretic 2 (Full Version) - Yes and No (mind of its own)
* ADescent - Should Work (Datafiles Needed)

@Gebrochen

Sorry, but we talk not exactly about just list. We talk about some well-known commercical games, and "how" to run it. And where it works, and where is not (on which hardware). Having just a list it's good, but it's say nothink. Only that is looks like works on some hardware (maybe).

Let's take for example Exodus The Last War. Did you test it _yourself_ ? If yes, did you _play_ in it ? Not only watch the first screen and write "yeah it works". Many ppls annoing by the Exodus (and all the latest patches) becouse they can't run it on os4.1 on peg2, and on sams. Personally i am have only first screen, and then nothinik. No menu, no music, no sounds, no game. Just first screen and nothink else.

If, still, you play in it yourself, can you please write here "step by step" solution how to run it ? There (on amigaworld) and on amigans.net, some ppls already ask about "how to run and play" in exodus on latest os4 and sam/peg2, but no one answer him. I think some ppls will interest in it, not only i am.

WipeOut works on MorphOS, because there is a patch in Aminet, especially for this OS. I had tried it in the past, but If I remember the CD soundtracks from the game didn't work.

@kas1e

I got exodus the last war to work yes, with the patch

I will upload the patch for download for people like yourself to be able to play this wonderful game

weekend I will do this for you, so you can have fun like me on my sam. haha. you will need the original game cd though.

Everything I tested whereby it does not state should work, and is a YES after it, means I myself can play it reliably without it failing or exiting after a perios of time, or even freezing my system after a period of time

CHRIS H

Yes heretic 2 works, but eventually crashes m system, but you knew this, due to your own system doing it also perhaps, I dont know.

Not PPC, but has anyone managed to get SimCity2000 to run on OS4.1?

@ChrisH
Rigth now i trying to run WipeoutDemo on my peg2/last os4.1 with all patches. I unpack it, and just run. Everythink works without grims, etc. Works as must.

Also i trying Paybackdemo, 68k version works the same. Just unpack, run and it works.

Earth2047_demo - works fine (trying 68k version).

Heretic2 demo - unpack, run, have "map" screen, then DSI, then system freeze.

Shogo_demo - unpack, run launcher, have "options" window, and then mouse pointer freezes, system freezes.

@Gebrochen
I think i have all the latest Exodus pathes (these ones from amiga-future page), and trying it all with no luck.

@kas1e

patch 2.1?

and

I will still upload this patch onto our Blitterwolf site
as i myself remeber how long it took me to find out this information myself, after researching for a ong time, found a site a couldnt read, but managed to download patch

ALSO

Be careful how you install it

you need to install the dud version first, straight off the cd by memory, then use the patch and let the patch install over your current instlled version.

By memory this is all what I did, and needed to do. But I do remeber it only working the second time i did this. the first time I mucked up the install, and was forced to erradicate everything related to exodus of war from the hard drive, before re installing it in this manner mentioned above.

Cheers

@Gebrochen

So better just w8 a bit when you will write "step-by-step" tutor for how running the Exodus :) I mean like:

1. mount your ISO game (which by size are _xxxxx_ bytes) by DiskImage prog
2. copy files to directory (or install by install script)
3. patch the game by that patch
4. set these params in the shell
5. run game by the running this binary

(if that not so hard for you of course)

I don't think that's correct - I understood the patch just speeds-up Wipeout, by preventing it from writing to a bad memory location. Maybe that would fix it for OS4 though.

BTW, I think it is very sad (and suspicious) that this MOS patch takes the trouble to modify the executable in-memory every time, rather than doing it easily on the disk once, as that prevents it from being used by OS4...

No, I see NOTHING, just a blank screen, no sound, no disk activity. So I would really like to know how you got it to work even slightly...

@Einar
I have SimCity 2000, so I will give it a go, but I am not hopeful, because it is AGA-only.

I didn't modify it as well did I? I remember one of these games did something stupid in the running script by modifying the RTG files or environment somehow then restoring it later. It just looked like a hack! The things game programmers did in the Amiga days. No wonder so many things are broken.

I tried SimCity2000, but it complains about the fonts being corrupt. I tried using FixFonts, but that didn't help either. Maybe replacing them with different (but v.similar) fonts would work?
