I do like small cases myself,but what i don't like about them,is the cooling solutions they usually got(PS3 case is an exception) Usually those small cases got a couple of 80mm fans,and when the computer is on heavy load,it sounds more like a angry bee trying to get out. I hate noisy cases Damn,even my homecinema system,and LCD televison got some fans in it(luckily they are'nt that noisy)

@MacSociety

I like being able to choose my own. Now that there's such a variety of cases to choose form these days, I don't want someone else forcing a choice on me. My A2000 is in a tower case, my A3000 desktop is moving to a tower, I hate the Escom/Quikpak A4000T case and have plans and parts to move that too. I did not buy a full Efika system, as the cases made for that seemed a bit crude, cosmetically. Though that is still in the original packaging, never been set up or plugged in or anything. I'd like to put it in a nice Mini-ITX case if I ever do anything with it.

Also, as for special keyboards, mice, etc. I have a number of computers on a KVM switch to decent wireless mouse and wireless keyboard. Why force me to store yet another set? I have a x4 KVM, wish I'd have saved up and got a x8 back then...

@billt

I'd be interested in buying the bezel or just the door of the Escom A4000T case if you ever transfer your mobo. It might not be that pretty a case but I'm missing the door and I rather like having a complete example of the last manufactured Classic Amiga.

I have owned every model and miss this one the most. Would look horn with LCD. Maybe black or the beige on offer? If not, ATX the whole way. I do after all, want to be able to expand it with cards

A black tower (beige would make me vomit a bit - one of the things that made the A3000 look great was that it looked lighter and cleaner than typical PC cases of the day, closer to a light creme or light grey than beige) that mimics the overall style of the A3000 could be nice if well executed. A good designer could come up with something that looks modern and works as a tower, but that hints enough at the original design to remind us of the A3000...

Not sure it'd be worth the extra cost for A-Eon to come up with a custom case, though, at the sales numbers they're likely to achieve, even if only a custom face plate for a standard ATX case... Especially since it could easily end up looking horrible with the wrong designer, and a good one would be quite expensive..

Amiga is getting back to the Commodore/Apple style of doing computers (try to go in a Apple store and ask for a MacPro, then tell them you just want the mobo because you like to choose your own case ).

@DAX

There's nothing wrong with that as long as the cases they choose are good! Buying standalone AmigaOne/Sam parts to build your own system does not appeal to me! It's not as if it saves any money! It's still rip off!

From: Somewhere in the Dutch mountains....

Chances are, I'm going to toss out the X1000 case and put the board in the tower I'm using for my A1 now. I like it, nice black, simple, stylish AND silent.

Anyone up for an A1/G4 800 with a new X1000 case ??

I'd prefer to choose my own DVD, HD and other stuff aswel !
Only the motherboard with CPU and memory for me please.......
Ah well... Probably won't happen...

Oh, and please not a pre-installed OS on it !

Cheers

Martin

I'll teach you the basics: take a very close snapshot of the case and modify the colours with photoshop :)

Are you referring to the black and yellow boing ball design?

Simple, relatively small, and low-key. If it looks like a case modder's wet dream or something designed by a special needs child, e.g. the Amiga Walker, I'm out. Let's hope the case designer is someone well versed in both contemporary art and industrial design.

The last thing I want to see is a circa 1995 3D flying logo with a boing ball painted on the side--you know, what every Amiga fan seems to think is the bomb.

Your post made my day. It's exactly how I feel, when I read threads like this here.

And for the people, who just want a Mobo anyway, this thread is apparently not for you.

If I would have to decide the X1000s case, I'd do something very contemporary, but resembling the Amigas of old. That means, going with a modernized color variation of beige/white, some decent Commodore style grill elements, embossed Amiga(One) letters.

I would keep miles away from most of those glowing "1337 c453 M0dz02z"-Designs I see so far in thread.

@MacSociety

I've always thought the A1200 and/or the Commodore CBM II series (low, rounded -- I have a B500, which is very rare) are the best-looking computers ever. They're not very internally expandable, though.

And, I have to admit, I am really really looking forward seeing what TheDaddy will pull out of his hat this time...

I think those A-Eon guys should have contacted him anyway for checking out his case designs for the X1000 and whatever else they may have up their sleeves.

His stuff is probably (and unfortunately) miles ahead of what they will offer (that's at least what I am expecting, if I am honest).

But, I'd be happy if in the end I would have to eat some crow on this topic... ;)

@steril606

I'm not sure I agree re: beige and embossing (very late 80's/early 90's), but the sentiment is the same. The original designers built cases that fit with the trends and memes of the time.

I'm not advocating being trendy just for the sake of being trendy (yuck), but the case shouldn't clash with my new Samsung 8500 series LCD TV. It IS possible to design something that looks elegant wherever you put it.

@asymetrix

OK, I'd probably go for an R2 unit, even if he does clash. (EDIT: My wife bought me a little tiny remote controlled R2-D2 for Christmas. Not very complicated, but still cool, and his beep-beep-woos drive the cats crazy. Where was he when I was eight years old and flying to Dagobah on a daily basis?)

@Trev

I know what you mean, but my point was doing these things (grill, embossed) in a contemporary approach.

Like the Mac Cube was the 2001s version of the 1988s NeXT Cube, for instance.

Off course, I am actually kind of talking out of my ass now, since I don't have any concrete idea how this would have to look like. It's just something I would tell the case designer, if I could.
