I like the Delorean look :^) Really nice work. I'd like to see how the motherboard and other parts fit. Sam and Natami would be cool.

Hi,
I'll sort out the few remaining issues then post photos and a video of the final product, brushed and anodised.

It should't cost much extra (if any) to get some black and some white. The fist few steps of the anodise process are the same. |

I am not sure if you can see it from the picture but on the right side there is the "X500 PLUS" name, it's laser cut and the letters act as air vents |
I hadn't actually spotted that.
Quote:
It seems to be ok with the AMD E350 fusion, temperature wise, I might add some more vents but we'll see. |
I just spotted your thread on the Natami forum. If only 20 or so will be made they'll probably not end up in the hands of someone wanting to put an AM3 or 1156 ITX board in there, so cooling is probably sufficient as it is.
It may be a good idea to test it with the most powerful video card you can fit in there first though.

I don't really want to cut the top, as it keeps any coffee/coke spillage away! |
You shouldn't be storing beveridges on it.

I'd like to know what you think about the left USB/Audio ports. I am thinking of replacing them with a 3.5" cut out for 3.5" card readers... |
Built in cut outs will look slicker but a 3.5" will open up more possibilities.
Some card readers have all the ports you mentioned and more. There would also be the possibility to add a fan unit to blow cool air in* if you are running a beefier video card, or a removable hard drive bay if you aren't using a video card.
*I guess that is dependant on whether there is a channel for the cool air to travel through. |

I expect some people might prefer a plain. Maybe some people would prefer to get anodised themselves, a gold plated one would look nuts. |

Lucky you! It should be fine, my 440ep has it flat (horizontal) and it's a pain in the backside!

Thanks Serk, I have tried to keep it a simple, original design, with clean, modern lines.
It's also practical, the flat, square parts allow for the use of more motherboards, all the SAMs fit, and I have tested about ten mini-ITX x86 boards up to now.
There is also plenty of space inside and for graphics cards, there are slots on the back so you can upgrade your card and you are not limited to the onboard one

Thanks, I have posted it on amiganews.it
Glad you like it.
@Bit7
We are definitely going for black or white, they seem to have the best finish too. I'll keep you posted.

The overall height is about 57-58mm so for powerful cpus low profile coolers are needed, also being the PSU a picoPSU (up tp 150-160W) you can't go nuts.
A fast x86 CPU with a top of the range card would drain the PSU so I think we are looking at atom and AMD fusion (which is way better) processors with a decent card, let's say a Radeon 6570 low profile, 4650, 4550, maybe a 5770 (depends on length).
>>It may be a good idea to test it with the most powerful video card you can fit in there first though.
Which one have you got in mind? Remember it has to be low profile, 20-22 cm in length max and it shouldn't drain too much power, let me know.

It is Back to the Future!
A case like this is totally new retro. Modern looking, better material, lighter but still that hint of the past, inbuilt, more comfortable keyboard and more importantly you choose what goes in.
For AmigaOS4 users with SAMs For AROS users, a fast mini itx x86 board with a nice ati/nvidia card Same for Windows/Linux users, you make it what you want.
And it's expandable, replace/upgrade the graphics cards when you want, the Cybernetman all-in-one computer doesn't allow you to do that, you are stuck with the same components and it doesn't look as cool as the silhouette of the A500.
But what do I know?! Last edited by TheDaddy on 03-May-2011 at 09:22 AM.

Hi,
>>Hello, If I could suggest something, add PowerE-SATA external connectors on the case, with Delock hardware. http://www.delock.com/produkte/gruppen/Slotbleche/Delock_Support_du_slot_2x_eSATAp_5VSLASH12V_61725.html SAM460 users must add a SATA PCI-E card and could allow some SATA prost to become external with the delock support slot.
The problem with the SAM460ex is that there is only one SATA slot and the X500 only supports one expansion card (so yo umight want to use a nice, beefy graphics card), I have put two expansion slots so people can decide if they want to put the card higher or lower, having said that some clever people could make an ingenious use of flexi riser cards and use both slots, I haven't had time to check this though.

Just a couple of silly questions:
Will it come with the boing ball on the Amiga keys?
How much assembly will be needed? _________________ 1 AmigaOne G4XE (OS4 Pre-Release Update4) Minimig Sam440ep + OS4.1FE Sam460cr + OS4.1FE |
