@eliyahu

This is good news. Unfortunately the YAM installer has a bug and won't work on my machine.

ERROR: Unmatched parenthesis on line 885.

Also the yam.ch login is broken now as well so I can't log a report. Kept getting a stack trace. Gave up. Had problems with OWB not being able to log in but not like this.

What is going on! It can't just be my machine?

@Hypex

Load the installer-script into your favorite editor and search for "(complete 70)", then delete the ")" one line over it.

@Tomcat

And after fixing that error and the installer is almost done copying files over, there'll be another error about being unable to copy a file. At that point I just copied the rest of the files over by hand and now Yam 2.9 is working fine here.

Anyone care to elaborate on Odyssey 1.16 ?

Is it the same Odyssey as on MOS or did the name change again for MUI-OWB ? Was it Origin or something ??

What are the main differences between all of those ?

And has this anything to do with the on going bounty ?

Thanks

Yes, but based on older sources.

If my memory serves my right, original OWB was ported from Sand Labs Origin Web Browser sources with additional GUI (Reaction on OS4 and MUI on MorphOS). OWB of Sand Labs is no more and OWB for MorphOS evolved into something of its own kind - powerful Odyssey Web Browser.

Quote:
What are the main differences between all of those ?

OWB (Reaction) - old version by AFXGroup and Joerg Strohmayer
OWB MUI 1.9 (OS4) - port of MorphOS OWB by kas1e and others
Odyssey Web Browser 1.16 (OS4) - port of newer MorphOS version
Odyssey Web Browser 1.22 - current MorphOS release (I hope)

No.

No, indeed.
When the new port is done, we will be on the same page.

And OS4 will be able to use a good native browser instead of worrying about porting Linux software.

Whenever possible, Amigans should support packages designed to run natively rather than those that use kludges like X11.

Compact, efficient code is our legacy, and we don't want too much Linux bloat.

@Tomcat

While I could do this myself I don't want too anymore and it doesn't fix the problem upstream. Plus it doesn't for a friend of mine who is a fan of YAM.

@Tomcat

After fixing bracket in Yam installer I had some files in resources fail to copy. However, I believe the reason was I had been running Yam 2.8 just before and those files were still "in use". Also the codesets lib 6.15 was still in memory so good to start clean.

@amigang

absolutely! The new OWB browser is so much better than the previous version. I like the new bookmarks manager, the ability to have tabs and the overall speed increase. This modernizes my browsing by a great deal, and at minimum gets it closer to my Windows and Mac browsers...so much so that I'm going to contribute to the bounty tomorrow.

When I got the X1000 I knew it was a "work in progress", and this month a good deal of progress has been made with the new MUI4, OWB 1.1.6. and a dozen other good releases, a nice Christmas present.

Get LibreOffice here soon and the X1000 just might become my primary computer.

I find your idea of "native" a bit unusual. Without belittling the extensive work required in providing a solid user interface, WebKit (without which you'd have no browser) is ultimately derived from KHTML. Which in turn was a component of KDE - arguably one of the most bloated bits of linux software ever created.
