You are trying to rationalize that silence is due to NDA. It can be but it necessarily is not. You have not heard anything about MorphOS on Cyrus boards. What it does tell to you? Is it coming to Cyrus or not?

Answer is, you can't know. If you knew you could not tell because you would be under NDA :)

@eliyahu

Misunderstanding then.

It was the lack of that word *also* in your initial post that threw me off. Heh.

@Everblue

yeah. it's the motherboard being used for the upcoming X5000 systems. these new amigaone machines are built around the freescale P5020 and P5041 processors. they were announced at last year's amiwest.

@eliyahu

And I guess the model number reflects the price of the board

Better don't expect expect anything. Avoids frustration.

It has been proven over & over again that ANY news/info will be twisted by some to suit their own hatred for OS/developer/company.

Want news? Go buy a newspaper or wait for Amiwest....

Damn, & I'm in a good mood.

I don't see a need to abuse completely innocent terms like "news" or "info" like that. Let's keep it civil, shall we?

Here's some of the stuff that was... 'mentioned' in the recent AmiWest speeches (using a very loose definition of "recent"):

2009 - Multicore support, new graphics system, Java planned for 4.2
2010 - Multicore support, Gallium 3D/OpenGL, Timberwolf to ship with the OS
2011 - Netbook
2012 - LibreOffice, Warp3D
2013 - Netbook "on hold", betatesting LibreOffice starts in one month, Warp3D not mentioned

(It's called "quoting" sundown - not "twisting")

@Everblue

"Is the X5000 supposed to be more powerful/expensive than the X1000? "

There should not be major speed difference.
But x5000 CPU cost perhaps 25% of the PA6T price (savings of up to 500eur).
And the Cyrus+ motherboard should be slightly simpler (no southbridge, IIRC), so a little cheaper to manufacture.

So... I would expect x5000 prices to start from 500eur below x1000 price range.
(and I hope we see 5010 in the low end instead of P3041)

X3500 will be the cheapest and will be equipped with a P3041 CPU an e500mc quad-core CPU running up to 1.5 Ghz it is expected price for motherboard will be £1,400+ it is not known when this system will be available.

X5000/20 will be the main board available and is also the beta test board to be developed first. The CPU will be a P5020, an e5500 dual-core running up to 2.0 Ghz and will be £1,600+ about the same power as the X1000.

X5000/40 is the daddy of all Amiga todate and is more planed for the future of the board and platform. The CPU will be P5040 quad-core CPU at 2.4 Ghz, it is not known when this system will be available. £2,000+

@Yssing

1400 £ + For X3500?
To whom are they going to sell these boards? Will X1000 owners upgrade? If not, how many potential customers left? Maybe sales to industrial partners?

@WolfToTheMoon

We do not know how it is calculated to cover the expenses. Propably with low conservative numbers. And I do not believe that there is much interest in a PPC desktop outside the community. Why not using a PC? Cheaper, faster, much more support nearby and you have much more operating systems you can choose from. Exotic hardware is (still) used on embedded market or in case of PPC on IBM servers, not on desktops.
