It's much better to attend shows in person if you can. Are you planning to go to the Peterborough event? It should be much easier to attend and much less of a drain on you finances, mine took a serious beating but still glad I made it there.

A lot of the same people including RJ, Davd Pleasance, Jon Hare and Allister Brimble should be there too.

@thread

Here's the news:

- X5000/20 was to be seen and is available for purchase from September
- X5000/40 is in beta testing in January (in = since, I guess)
- X3500 has been discontinued because it is not much cheaper than
the X5000 or X1000 would be, but there are other new hardware.
- A-Eon has in this regard 2 new hardware projects going on.
- Gorky 17 will soon come for the AmigaOs4.1, Frank Menzel (developer-X) is working.
- Hyperion has shown the most recent AmigaOS4.1 Beta, under the hood there are improvements in turn.
- Viva Amiga film was shown for 20 minutes looks great.
- Clanto will perform for Amigforever PPC optimizations so AmigaOs4.1Classic is even better run on Amiga Forever.
-Jens Schönfeld has Amiga Reloaded announced plus 2 more turbo card for A500 and A500+

Google translation from german, post 480 made by Tommy Sammy. (Thanks Tommy)

And I'm also waiting for the Viva Amiga film, Minimig+ AGA, maybe Gorky 17 and AmigaForever PPC as well...

And of course AOS4.2 (inkl. multicore support and working drivers for X5000/040), and some other stuff too...

(PS: Meanwhile I'm happy tinkering with my Sam...)

Gorky 17 will also be on my buy list too. Hoping to pick up Wings Battlfield and maybe a few other things from Amigakit this week.

>- X5000/20 was to be seen and is available for purchase from September

Nice to see some schedule!

>- X5000/40 is in beta testing in January (in = since, I guess)

Nice! I was not aware of that being betatested allready.
I would expect that not to require much further testing time after /20 is out.

>- X3500 has been discontinued because it is not much cheaper

Sane move!

>but there are other new hardware.
>- A-Eon has in this regard 2 new hardware projects going on.

X5000/10 and new X600 ???
or X6000 and X600 ???
Really, not nice that there seems to be so little user/community interaction vs new developments.
But it's clear that we need new stuff on the affordable end.

>- Clanto will perform for Amigforever PPC optimizations so AmigaOs4.1Classic is even better run on Amiga Forever.

I would love to hear about Hyperion & Cloanto agreement of official AF+UAE+AOS4 bundle for x86.
(to clarify: so far there is none)

>-Jens Schönfeld has Amiga Reloaded announced

Well... I need to read if that is some kind of A4k replacement for myself.

PS:

My AmigaTwoX86X64 X6000/X PC is running all the good latest OpenGL games and blender banchmark in less than 10 seconds and cost just a quarter of an X5000 and everything works and last but not least eat a X5000/40 for breakfast, so i don't have to wait for anything.

@Ertilyllibllih

If it runs your favorite OS and does all the things you need in your way, then your dream has come true?

I wish my AMD FX4300 could do that. But it can not.

(and I most likely can not afford x5000)

@KimmoK

Your skills combined with your dreams may be distorting certain realities .

What are the minimum specs for a powerpc machine that would make you happy and that you think that you could afford ?

Minimum total DMIPS
Minimum Cores
Must Have Altivec (Yes/No)
PCIE

Talking abut compatible, O$4 is not compatible with anything.

Isn't your PPC IBM by the way? You have been lead by the devil.

Neither is MS-Windows compatible with anything but itself, nor is Linux compatible with anything but itself. Same goes for Apple's OSX (add an 'n' and an 'e' at the appropriate places and you're in the middle of an MLC..), showing that no* OS is compatible with anything but itself (hopefully, fingers X-ed). That is the very nature of OS's.

You are happy with your hardware. Good for you. Some others might not be so happy with it, me a.o.

*some mainframe OS's of yore might have some degree of binary compatibillity or some sourcecode level compatibillity (Correct me IIAW).

@Spectre660

"What are the minimum specs for a powerpc machine that would make you happy and that you think that you could afford ?"

>Minimum total DMIPS

-2000per core, but 3000 is better. (3000 if multicore support is not released)
-One core. (more if there is OS support or price difference is very small)

>Must Have Altivec (Yes/No)
No.

>PCIE
2 (1 free would be nice)
(1 or 2 x4 v2.0 slots would be cool, physically x16)

>PCIEx1
No specific need for x1.
>PCI
No need.

>SATA
0...2

>Other
Some USB 2.0 ports.
AmigaLikeOS (like MorphOS or AmigaOS)

HW cost should be between EUR100...150 for that kind of thing... (no R&D costs covered)
This had estimated user price of USD199 https://www.power.org/solution/p-cubed/
T1014 might be enough for such product, but T1042 might be sane use of extra EUR40 money.
UPDATE:
Here is another example of larger EUR200 PPC board: http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=629

I might end up getting SAM460cr one day as my own HW design/dream/project does not show enough progress...
UPDATE:
SAM460 looks ok in performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&list=UL&v=VxR0WZqtFSU
