@WeiXing3D

Very true. Plus I like the size of my SAM 460 system. It works just fine for me :)

@Drewlio77

yes, you have to have low profile, but he does not, he can use the low profile and full size card, otherwise he could not use the gpu card he now has and what he gets. the problem you can get with low profile card is that it can get hotter on gpu card since the fan becomes longer bellow sata card, if you can use full size card (single slot) i would definitely use that.

here is a picture of my sam460ex with CLUB3D Radeon HD 7750 (CGAX-7752)

@noXLar

I use this solution to solve heat issues (I do not use the PCi-e x1 slot):

@sundown et al
I was writing this post/update when you posted your question.

I received my replacement card last Friday and as some of you guessed, it didn't work or make any difference. Still not signal in the monitor.

I tried different a couple of things, which didn't help either:
1. Tried using a Sharp DVI/VGA monitor - No signal in either video port
2. Bought and upgraded PSU for an Antec 550W Silent all modular - This didn't help either/

So today I returned the VisionTek HD 7750 and ordered a XFX R7-250E-ZNP4 Radeon R7 250E 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5, single slot. I checked with Hans at HDRLab via email, and he thinks "that in theory it should work" as well as it has a Cape Verde chip set. The new card arrives here this coming Friday, just in time for Amiga30 at Mountainview, so if any of you guys is coming and have the time to give me a hand with this project, I can bring my SAM460ex to the show.

I should have asked this before, but never it's too late:
All the time I have been swapping the cards (after powering off, of course) in the PCIe slot, and nothing more. I have already confirmed that my SI drivers were installed, by finding them in the appropriate directory (drawer), but is there anything else that I should be doing before swapping cards?

My SAM460EX continues working with my original Gigabyte RadeonRV 730 without any problems. Either monitor, the HD LG or the Sharp DVI/VGA detec the signal from this card immediately.

Please let me know if I'm missing something to be ready for when the next card arrive.

@WeiXing3D

Graphics cards come from different vendors and have different
BIOSes on them which is not a problem if you are trying to use it
on PC (as you should) because they test them for that.

Use them on NG Amiga hardware that has it's own brand of BIOS
and some may fail to work although there is nothing wrong with
them.Not all cards that were made for PCIex slot will work on
PCI slot too.Best way is to buy same card as someone else who
got it to work but keep in mind that "Rev 1.001" might work while
"Rev 1.002" will not work although they are identical.

@WeiXing3D

Do any of these cards display UBoot? Or is it no signal from power up? If it was driver related a bootable Linux could be tested as well.

@Hypex

No, I don't get to see anything at all; nothing but a black screen. I have waited for several minutes just to see if it could take longer than usual, but then again nothing.

It's like the monitor doesn't find a signal from the card.

I tried 2 different monitors as well, and different cable connections: HDMI and DVI with a HD LG monitor and DVI and VGA with Sharp monitor.

@blizz1220

The VisionTek HD 7750 cards that I tried (2 different, brand new cards) are reported as working with SAM460ex.

I know of one person in particular in Toronto, Canada, who has a system almost identical, and he is using the same VisionTek (P/N 900549), working.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to a large stock of graphic cards, nor the money to keep buying until I find one that works with my system.

If this next card doesn't work, I will try with a second hand double slot card (any of the models reportedly working with SAM460ex). That's all I can do.

I already bought a PCIe extension cable from AmeriRack and I'm waiting for delivery to be ready just in case.

@WeiXing3D

Okay, that's worse then. Does it prevent it from booting? Or can you see HD lights?

A final suggestion I would make is to connect a null modem cable to the machine so you can capture the UBoot output on another computer. Do you have the equipment for this?

@Hypex

I don't have the hardware needed to test with a null modem cable.

Regarding the HDD lights, yes, it blinks like in the normal booting, but there is no signal going to the monitor.

@WeiXing3D

Does your Sam lack a serial port or you lack a terminal/cable/another computer to plug it in to? Sad fact of NG Amga life is you need a debug setup when these things don't boot. Well more so with the A1 anyway.

The light is a good sign as that would suggest the hardware didn't lock up. And would place the problem closer to UBoot.

@Hypex

Before updating to UBoot 2015 I tried the old one and it was all the same; no signal.

All,

It's with immense rejoice that I inform that....EUREKA!!! my new card is working.

So I can officially report that for some unknown reasons, the VisionTek Radeon HD 7750 1GB GDDR5 (900549) is not compatible with all SAM460ex. Probably not all the mobo versions are the same.

But on the other hand, this XFX R7-250E-ZNP4 Radeon R7 250E 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 (P/N R7 250E-ZNP4), Cape Verde chip set, WORKS!!!! and it is cheaper than the VisionTek HD7750 at Newegg.com

Thank you all for your support and encouragement.

I am a happy camper now.

I will be finding and installing games like crazy when I come back.....any suggestions and links?

Glad that you are up and running.

Had you followed my advise you would have been on your way a little sooner .

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=40347&forum=33&4#763003

I actually have two of the cards of model that you tried first and they work for me with my Sam460ex so sometimes it is a bumpy road and you have to be a pioneer .
It is possible that something was changed in later versions which retain same model number .

I'm waiting for deliver of an AmeriRack extension cable and I will have my son do the modifications later.

In any case I'm now using 4 fans inside my case, all powered by an Antec 550W super quite PSU.

New question:
I'm still showing a max resolution of 1920 x 1080 under Prefs:ScreenModes and RV730 under monitors.

Is this OK or do I need to update something else?

I'm sorry if my question is silly but I'm new with this gfx thing.

Whats wrong with 1920x1080? thats native for most monitors, unless you have a 4k monitor.
