AMD are refreshing the Radeon range with R7 300 series and and R9 300 seies.

The R9 380, which replaces the is R9 280, is based on the same Tonga GPU as the 285 and therefore isn't currently supported by the RadeonHD driver.

I think R7 300 series cards use the Bonaire Pro and Pitcairn Pro GPUs so it looks like they aren't currently compatible either.

@Rob

So which Radeon card is supported now by the SI drivers and compatible with a SAM460EX using AmigaOS 4.1 FE?

I'd like to buy one here locally in the U.S., but I don't know which one. Today I went to a computer parts store here in Silicon Valley, and they told me that the Radeon HD 7750, which I've seen some people saying that they are using and recommend, was discontinued long ago, and added that it is now obsolete.

Can someone show me a link to a recommended card in eBay for example?

@WeiXing3D

There's a list of supported models on Hans' website.

@WeiXing3D

NewEgg lists a LOT of AMD cards, several 7750 cards are there

Quick search there found 27 cards starting at $89.99

@DWolfman

I found an old stock ASUS HD7750-1GD5-V2 AMD Radeon HD 7750 VGA 1 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card, and I am guessing it's a good one! So I ordered. I paid US$100.

Once I receive it, do I have to buy, download and install the drivers for Southern Islands before swapping graphic cards?

Can this be done by a computer technician with no experience with Amiga NG hardware? I'm not a hardware guy myself, so I am considering to hire help.

@WeiXing3D

This model is going to block your PCI slot unless you use a pcie extender cable .

@Spectre660
This is why I was trying to know exactly which card was the most recommended for my SAM460ex.

Then I will buy the cable, and I have yet another reason to have my computer serviced by a hardware technician instead.

BTW my order ships next Monday, so I can still stop it if someone please tell me which model card works best for my SAM460EX.

Could you please show me the cable that I need to buy?

25 or 30cm .

The next question is if your case has enough extra space to do this?
http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz/download/file.php?id=1708&mode=view

Or see if you can get one of these video cards.

No reports on this model and Amiga NG machines but right width (Singles slot) and nice height for airflow over the PCI SATA card. Other R7-250E models are know to work with the Sam460ex. Note they need to be R7-250E and not R7250 although some cards labeled as R7-250 are actually R7-250E models.

First thank you for your responses.

so you are saying that this card that you recommend has not been tested on a SAM460EX. So how can I know if it will be supported by OS4.1 FE and Southern Islands?

Or see if you can get one of these video cards.

@WeiXing3D

We Amigans are pioneers. .
Some card will work. Others won't.
Some that should work sometimes do not.
Some of us have tested a lot of cards and submitted the results to the compatibility list.
I have submitted results for at least 10 different models.
Most worked .A few did not.

The Sam460ex has the single slot issue with newer Radeon HD cards in the HD7000 series and up.
The low profile single slot HD 7750 and R7-250E models that work can have heat problems as the PCI SATA card can block the airflow of the video card and cause some overheating.
With the wide models that block the pci slot you either have to live without SATA or resort to using a PCIE extension cable and mounting the card away from the motherboard.
If you have the skills or know someone who can do it properly for you then no problem.
If not then it may be better to take a chance on a US$90.00 single slot full height video card model from a supported chipset than muck around trying to get the dual slot model working with a US$ 600.00 motherboard .

Had I been aware of the heat issue with the low profile models a year ago when I bought my HD7750's I would have purchased the single slot HD7750 version ,similar to the R7-250E model that I pointed you to. So I have ended up using both a low profile model and a PCIE extension cable at the same time.

@WeiXing3D

This is my solution. A single slot 7750 with the SIL 3114 Sata PCI card. I am using a Left 90 degree angled PCI adapter. This gives the 7750 more airflow.

If you browse the previous images (Left Arrow) you will see how little space there was. The Fan on the card would get very loud after about 10 minutes. Using the Left Angle PCI adapter made a big difference on the acoustics and heat build up. The adapter does cover the PCI-e x1 slot but I do not plan on using it so its no big deal.

What make and model of card are you using?

These pictures show details of my case and interior:

You can install the Warp3D driver before or after installing the card but it's probably best to make sure your 2D driver is the latest update of whichever version you use.

Yes. It just a case of taking the old card out and putting the new one in.

Thank you all for your answers. I managed to find and bought VisionTek AMD Radeon HD 7750 SFF 1GB x16 PCIe (900549 Radeon HD 7750 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card), low profile.

Now I'll buy the SI drivers and wait to receive the card in about a week from now.

I'll have a local computer store to help me with the hardware installation.
