Sure, here RTG shines.

But even when you use your Workbench and move a window, for example, with AGA it kills the system, since it's deadly slow, whereas with RTG it works like a charm.

Please, try an RTG-enable Amiga and judge yourself.

That's makes sense only for ray tracing rendering, which takes long. Not for real-time graphic, like painting, animation, and 3D modeling (with preview), or even when you have to watch a 24 bit image (it takes time to convert it to HAM8).

I forgot replying to this but i have had an RTG enabled Amiga since late nineties, it works with both AGA and VGA, and before this i had a 3000 pretty close with RTG.

Why do you need to have solid window moving and resizing eye candy in WB, isn't it enough with a thin fine window frame, its super fast on AGA too?

I don't think you've tried an Amiga at all, or are you one of those who chickened out to IBM compatible MS-DOS back in 1990? Have you ever heard about dithering by the way?

In theory, you could expand A1200 with Z2 (or even Z3 slots) and use RTG GFX card.

Yes in theory but not in practice. But still you can run all the software on 8 bit screen, and if you wanted you can render in 24 bit.

I know few Amiga users with such setup. Sure unusual, but not impossible.

And what was that prior to 1998? I don't think it was something you could buy in this country, at least as far as I can remember. I bought my CPU/RAM accelerator cards locally, any links?

I have review of MicroniK Z2 in Czech Amiga magazine "Amiga Review" (No. 16, p. 16, May 1996), there were similar products by other companies at that time. Price? Around 300-400 USD.

ahh okay. This one http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/micronik1200z1

I only used the internet and read English magazines at the time beside the social inputs, but I remember the cards now when you mention it. lets say ~1997 then, fortunately i wasn't that desperate that I bought something like that. Those frankenAmiga towers...

You obvioulsly don't get that nearly all Amiga computers was not delivered with RTG cards.

I perfectly know it: I had a plain Amiga 2000 and a plain Amiga 1200 (I've added an HD only the following year).
Quote:
And how many Amiga 500 and 1200s where sold? you couldn't put a RTG card in the 1200 until around 1998 I think.

There were video cards for several Amiga models, included my old Amiga 2000. Take a look here: Amiga Hardware Database: Graphics Expansions

And I was talking about the demos i linked too, thats because that was what NutsAboutAmiga was whining about in the first place. You obviously were not able to run neither the CGX nor AGA versions since you think it was HAM8, or you know you can change color palette over time?

I haven't made any statement regarding your demos, because I haven't seen them, and I have no intention to waste my time this way (as I stated, I never liked demos).

You said this:

"And the computer can work in 24 bit even if the screen doesn't show 24 bit."

and I only replayed that if you want to display the result of that elaboration, using HAM8 (the only mode which makes sense for this), it takes time. That's all.

No: I want more; the best that I can get. I'm not stuck on early 90s, and I missed all RTG stuff because my Amigas were unexpanded.

So, why not if I can?
Quote:

That's a personal attack which tries to disqualify me with non-sense things.

I've expressed TECHNICAL opinions. If you don't like them, you can try to give a decent rebuttal. Or quit
Quote:
Have you ever heard about dithering by the way?

Maybe. If I recall correctly, it was used by machines with poor graphics capabilities, whereas other machines had truecolor displays available (so, they don't it). Right?

In theory AND in practice, because they worked.

256 colors? Still? Are you kidding?
Quote:

Limited 24-bit, because with HAM8 you cannot have full control of every color component. And converting a 24-bit image to HAM8 took time.

In 68k emulation, I often switch to Windows to read game documentation (PDF manual, online solutions, maps etc.). Sure, AmigaOS4 offers better software support in this regard (PDF, Web), but known limitations force switch to Windows even there.

You can try with AROS/68K, or you can integrate some AROS/68K components on your Amiga o.s. 3.x system. So you can avoid switching back and forth with Windows.

Don't come here with the stupid childish personal attacks card just as its only you who are allowed to do personal attacks. You accused me for exactly the same... I have a word for people like you but it doesn't translate to English. If you are not stuck in the 90s you could at least focus on a OS not stuck in the ninties like Ng, you can use RTG in WinUAE if you want. And I don't believe it has anything to do with wasting time or you don't like demos you didn't try the demos.

HAM8 only makes sense if the image has a very wide specter of colors, otherwise is 256 colors out of a 16.8 million (24bit) color palette using dithering completely okay on the screen on the old Amiga 1200.

And if you had Amiga 2000 with a RTG card why didnt't you buy A3000 or A4000 then instead of a A1200 when you absolutely had to have a RTG card? If me absolutely needed a RTG card me hadn't bought Amiga 1200 with only a trapdoor slot?

Quote me and PROVE it, or you're a liar.

Again, you don't want to stop to go with your personal attacks, like you did with your banned accounts.

In fact, I use WinUAE, AROS, or whatever I like. But I don't emulate a plain old Amiga with WinUAE: I prefer to have it pumped, since it's possible and it's a pleasure.

I prefer games or concrete applications, as I already stated.

Of course. You also talked about 24-bit colors images.

IF you have a plain Amiga 1200, you have no other choices. But you can expand it, with a more advanced video card too.

Or better stick to an emulator which can give a much better experience...

amazing to repeatedly read these comparisons of self-made hardware using embedded components and hacked-together operating system with what they are based on and trying to emulate

Amazing to repeatedly read comments from people who fail to realize that others may simply have different experience and opinions.

You are wasting my time, something you obviously have a lot of to waste... Why not try the demos?

@kolla: it seems to be a couple of teams (persons?) which are working on a new CPU, and chipset. Ask Olaf for more details.

Yeah, I'm aware of those, but I don't think that can count as "sometime soon" :)
