| What is the current status of IBrowse? Can the full 2.4 version still be purchased from somewhere? There was on the home page, in the latest message (2016) in "News" section, a mention of a future v. 2.5...
Regards,

I don't think it's been on sale since Felix Schwarz closed down the Amiga side of IOSPIRIT back in 2007. |

I've been following this for the last 10 years. Apparently the original coder and owner of the IBrowse source is very hard to contact and not interested in the Amiga world anymore. The 2.5 version changes were coded by another person and AFAIU he's still looking to get the OK from Stefan, the original coder. But clearly, this has proven to be very difficult.
It would be very interesting to hear this year's update on the IBrowse status?

That about sums it up, V2.5 has been tested for a long time now, is workig well, has had many bug fixes and is waiting for the OK to release it.

| Chris has ported Netsurf with Reaction GUI to 68k amigas. Current testbuild is very fast, speed is very near to iBrowse. Sites like this is rendered and displayed less than 20 seconds with 68060 cpu.
He has got very few testers and virtually zero interest to it. He said that he doesn't need to donations, but if he thinks that there is a interest to it, motivates him most. That is something very rare to amiga land now a days.
There are some time consuming problems and seems that they will remain unsolvable. Test build doesn't work with UAE at all, so it is only for real amigas. Testbuild uses guigfx and render libraries from aminet. Graphics card users needs to set friend_bitmap:1 manually to choises file to colors displayeded right.

WOOHOO!!!! Dial-up speed emulation
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Personally, I'll stick to IB 2.5 PPC as long as I can especially as I can access some modern sites that make odysey fall over, crash or display nothing. _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

Well I use Netsurf mostly with my OS4 machine. It is more stable than Odyssey. It simply doens't work with some too complicated sites, but doesn't crash. I couldn't imagine reason to use iBrowse. |

Is there an IB 2.5 for PPC 3.x users? I would love to try it out!! _________________ I do motherboard recaps and other enhancement/upgrades! Visit. www.acill.com or PM for a quote. |

No and I doubt there ever will be with OS4 for PPC classics being cheaply available and the problem of different flavours of PPC integration for OS3. There's a generic 68k version for any OS3+ platform and a specific OS4 PPC version, neither of which is available to the public yet _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

I have read a it won't support CSS, so it look old, and will most likely have all JavaScript problems from before. Besides using little memory there is not a lot makes it great.
The only thing I can think of is NPAPI, but that is being abandoned by popular web browsers like chrome, Firefox these days: due to security risks of having plugins running as programs.
That’s nice but on the other hand chrome plugins, see what you see and can leek information about you don't wont, it seems to be that have just traded inn one security hole for another security hole.
On the other hand, chrome plugins (java script plugins) are platform independent.
And many thing used to use NPAPI plugins for like video, and games can be done using HTML5, and/or WebGL now.

Maybe it's time to add a few new members to the beta testing team, say another thousand or so, for a reasonable 'Administration Fee' of course.
hmmm... $50, lifetime free acess to the WarpDT website, no t-shirt and a badge saying 'I have IBrowse' _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

That is NOT near IBrowse. On a 50mhz 68030 this site's front page takes 20 seconds to load. Big difference.Last edited by Thorham on 08-Jun-2016 at 05:53 PM.

True and not true. iBrowse displays pages differently, it starts to display page immediately when it has something to show. I loads page long time after that. There is no way that iBrowse would have downloaded and rendered page complitely after 20 seconds with 68030. |

Yes, it does that. I specifically timed it from pressing enter after typing the url, to when everything was finished loading (which is very easy to see in IBrowse), NOT when it started displaying something.
So yeah, it's true. It takes 20 seconds on my A1200 with 50mhz 68030, no FPU, 64 MB fast mem, to render the whole page in 32 colors with Floyd Steinberg dithering. |

You are right and I was wrong. Amigaworld.net loads few seconds with 060 and 040 with iBrowse. Netsurf loads it some 22 seconds.
Both browsers displays amigaworld.net right.
My mistake, I have usually test these with amiga.org, wich is different thing. IBrowse loads it with 060 about 17 seconds. Netsurf loads it 23 seconds.
IBrowse doesn't display it right.
