OK, I'm not much into this GPL stuff, what does this mean? What practical use can this have for the Amiga platform?

@Pentrite

GPL means GNU's General Public Licence. So basicly the source codes will be available for everyone to use under the GPL license. Any modifications to sources should be made available too (at least if someone wants them).

See the actual licence text for more info.

This means, that some day, someone ports Quake 3 for the Amiga :)

@Mr_Capehill

Thanks for the info, I could have googled for it, but it's to early in the morning, and I'm to lazy for that.
Hope someone makes something cool of these sources.
PS I'm looking like Helgis replying every post. (No ofense Helgis)

Finished too, but I didn't like it, so I deleted the source and put a curse upon Carmack ;)

I don't think we are going to see a port this year though.

The Friedens and Steffen Haeuser are really busy with OS 4 and see nobody else at the moment with the experience they have to port this relatively quickly. As these people are familiar with the ID software sources they are the best persons to do it.

I don't count myself good enough. I only ported UHexen and I have more then enough problems in getting Heretic ported at the moment.

Hmm, I guess a Q3 port would be for the Newer machines... like A1 (for the moment)

What are the chances of it running on a classic PPC machine with 3D graphics card?

@Toaks

I hope you are aware that the code isn't available just yet... It *will* be within a week or so.

@Robert17

quite slim i guess but who knows, anyway if there will be an os4 port it will work on classics with os4 anyway..well i dont see why really but then again i am all for moving forwards and not backwards (meaning.. don't do a cutdown version or whatever just so people who wont upgrade cant follow)
