I think the stark reality really is that the attitude here seems to be just that bit more mature. That in itself is due to the people that inhabit this site, users and staff alike.

It`s a well known fact that the best moderation is one you don`t see.

Keep it up people.

I have been here for a while now and absolutely endorse what the moderators have done.

The accusations are incrediably exagerrated and should be ignored.

Moderation means making mistakes (I have none in mind when saying this). No-doubt something gets jumped on that does not need to be or something is misread or misunderstood. A few civil exchanges should fix this when it happens.

Moderators should not feel bound by their decisions, people subject to their judgment if they feel it wrongly applied should be able to challenge politely and the moderator should find no difficulty in reversing a decision - such is life.

If the alternative is to have free-for-alls and the sorts of "discussions" had elsewhere, then that is no alternative - I came here to escape the barrage of garbage and I want it to stay like this.

Best of luck and don't worry about the silly attacks - remember some of those people only want the freedom to stop the rest of us discussing things properly - at least that is what I have found elsewhere - besides which I just dislike being abused because I have geniunely said something (be it right or wrong).

You have my support for the site Haven't payed much attention, but here lately read more on probs, so i guess there are some. My feelings firstly every-1 should feel free to discuss what they like in forums, as long as it doesn't offend others. We all come to here to find news and talk about our favorite computer system. We should be supporting eachother rather than bashing eachother. I know there will always be differences in the way every-1 thinks, but lets try and treat each other with respect. Secondly, policing is necessary on a web site like this just for the matter that every one does have diff views and opinions and flame wars do happen, but policing should be held as minimal as possible. If a forum comes in that well is in very bad taste then erase it, warn the person and go on. (think this is the way its done anyways). the fact is since any-1 can post policing is a neccessity and will always be, just how much there is depends i guess on how many probs in the past we've had. Anyways im full of crap most of the time so have fun:)

To Mikey_C:

Yes, it is true. Amiga World has made a lot of people mad, including myself, because of over-moderation and over-editing. In fact, I was even insulted by some of the Amiga World Staff, including DaveyD. Amiga World does not need people like him who insults knowledgeable computer people like myself. I DO know what I am talking about ! My advice to the Staff of Amiga World is to STOP moderating and editing so much and to STOP insulting people like me.

Variety is the spice of life, sir. If you ran this site just as other sites are run, there wouldn't be much difference, and thus less appeal.

I recommend that you not change your policies regarding moderation; you're on the right track.

I think, people who make accusations about another person should be moderated. Either totaly deleted or put in a place that someone cant see unless they really want to see what was moderated. Then, a person can be given the choice to reply to the person who made the comment that was moderated and ever reply to that text of moderation should also be put in the same place the moderation was...

In short, a slashdotstyle moderation would be best, where a person has a define threashold of what he/she would like to see. Of course it wouldnt be as huge as the slashdot moderation, as in, i dont think there is any need for moderations such as interesting/funny/1/2/3/4/5 etc... only just the ones that keep the trolls at bay or the people that say stuff about other people...

Know what i mean?

That sounds like a good idea, it would also take some of the heat from the moderators. Of course, the downside is that a troll could come along with a bunch of friends, post some garbage and then get it modded up to "+5 insightful"

Another idea that was floated, which I think is good, is to have a "blocked bucket" - instead of just deleting threads, lock them and move them there. That way others can see what the fuss was about and there is transparency, everyone can see why the thread got snipped.

Regarding moderation levels, I like what I see. Other than that, insults should just be removed, accusations should get a "put up or shut up": if there's nothing to back them up, snip. Mods should also not let themselves be wound up, otherwise AW will just become a troll sportsfield: today's event is "wind up MikeB and then complain about censorship"

Havent really been impacted by any moderation so far so im obviously not concerned about the level of moderation.

Also, i personally come here only expecting news and talk regarding classic amigas, os4 and the like. I simply dont care to see the rest here and would expect it to be deleted. Regarding AW being polarized towards amiga inc endorsed solutions, so the f#@k what! I would invite it to be as such, THATS WHY IM HERE...

I often visit competing sites for news on all other OS's of interest such as mos/win/linux etc etc, but they are simply not the target of this site and i'd for one be glad to keep it that way, that doesnt mean ive got something against them, it just means they dont fit here. Just because the product is similar doesnt mean it has to infest *every* aspect of its parent. The minute i start to see the usual flame fest start here will be the last time i come here.

Tough one.
If people get moderated here, they have obviously expressed something that the moderators did not approve of, and they have the right to moderate that.

It would perhaps be better if the moderators were neutral, and not part of the community, but who would do that kind of work for free, and on a site that has no interest to them.

My humble guess is that most of the complaints come from blue trolls anyway and they probably deserve it.

It is good tough that you ask for our opinion in this matter. Most members does not seem to have a problem with the moderation, so on average you are doing just fine, keep it up.

Just keep on using common sence.

I don't think there's a perfect way of moderating. Just keep on steering the site on calm roads.

(And yes, stay out of the slinging matches on other sites. It doesn't do anything good.)

As moderator of a few other boards I know the importance of moderate some post to keep a decent enviorment for everyone.

As long as moderators don't activly moderate post for a certan agenda (AKA pro-Amiga/anti-Peg or pro-Peg/anti-Amiga) or moderate post that might be heated though to the point (that to say ppl are alowed to "fight" for their opinion but without mudslinging and other bs) then all should be well. I doubt those things happen here but I'm no mod so I have no real insight, therefor I can only judge from what I see and what I see I like.

Hi

The only noticeable moderation was the porno avatars. I like the site as it is now. Maybe a moderation policy should be posted to let posters know when they can expect moderation. Maybe the moderated posts could be sectioned off in a separate topic instead of just left locked where they were, just to prove how many posts have been moderated.

Hi Amiga2000King,

I don't think people have been deliberately insulting you - it's mainly in jest! Also, could you point out any specific moderation instances you have been unhappy with, as this could help the staff a lot!

Cheers,
Ian

Unfair moderation is an oxymoron. They're big creatures with long legs, antlers and feathers and I haven't seen any of those round here. You're doing a good job. Keep it up!

I like it here.

As far as moderation goes ...

The REF always takes the stick !!

Perhaps a locked "Sin Bin" area for modded comments .. ala Os.com could be incorporated here.

Keep up the good work chaps.

@ Bodie_CI5 .. You noticed !!

@CodeSmith
Threads are never deleted, they are only removed from the frontpage.

@All
We (site developers) are working on a new system to discipline members that continue to troll, flame or insult people.
The disciplinary action take will be as follows in this order
1. Verbal Warning
2. Posting privileges revoked for 7 days
3. Posting privileges revoked for 30 days
4. Account removed/IP blocked

Suggestions/comments welcomed

PS Thanks everyone for the support

Don't change a thing!!! i just love this place. finaly a site where the original amiga feeling is. No flames or wars. Just amiga users having a good time.

As for moderation. If the moderators is happy with how their site looks then that is all that matters. People that think like them will come here and those that don't will go away. That way everyone is happy

I don't understand why a forum that is pro Amiga is a bad forum ? It's tha Amiga i love and whant to read about and discuss.

Rather then say what I think you should do, I will tell you why I come here.

The first and foremost reason is that I can chat to people without them getting the "wrong end of the stick" and throwing it back into my face. No mattter the topic we hold a decent, and most importantly, constructive conversation. Yes sometimes people do missunderstand, and I have seen it happen here, but it never seems to degenerate into name calling.

We have a laugh, we ask questions to which we get answers that don't make you feel like an idiot.

No matter your moderation style you will be critisised, to much, to little, you'll never hit the balance that all people want. That said, how many complaints have you had from the long time, high postage, members of this site?

As I said in another post, I don't goto Ann, never been to moonbunny and only read the headlines on AO. Who cares what other people think? This is YOUR site and as long as the people GOING to it and POSTING on it are happy, why worry!

Well my 1p's worth

Gemini
