I would like it very much, would draw up the specification of the community own hardware specification. They appear in a row it promising amiga clones. We play it as if we would be us the designer team. I expect the ideas of everybody and ones with a undertaking mood, who would try it, to build!

Basis it would be my idea that a basis would be a card on which only localbus would be into what it would be possible to insert standard cards with an aim differing on a surface, e.g. CPU, SOUND, IO, etc.

@Derfs

According to me this not trouble, but it would be possible to collect what components and circuit diagrams are like besides, codes, infos available to the realisation of the specifications.

Everybody saw it according to me how AMIGA prototype looked, is not needed immediately billion GHz-away to do.

@AliveMOon

I was wondering if anyone was going to bite on this. Just take a look at ALL the hardware threads for the obvious issues with 'community specced hardware':
- Everyone wants different things
- People think some things exist that don't, or are astronomically expensive (a PPC970 mobo with PCI-Express), or just unrealistic when they want a 'dream machine' versus what reality might be able to provide.
- NO COMPANY HAS A LICENSE FOR OS4 HARDWARE
- Even when hardware does show up, see last point, as well as people wanting 'something else.'
- Any 'custom' hardware with even approaching modern specs, if made for the 'Amiga community,' will be cost prohibitive due to the low numbers of boards/systems to be made
- Anyone making 'only Amiga hardware' is either totally insane, or a VERY small company

I think one of the most interesting attempts so far involved Olegil, but really, all of the above apply. Oh, and just one more reminder:
- NO COMPANY HAS A LICENSE FOR NEW OS4 HARDWARE

The best we can hope for at this point is the court case is eventually resolved in a manner that allows OS4 to survive and release with hardware at some point, the insane licensing scheme is invalidated and OS4 os ported to commodity hardware, a classic PP accelerator is made and OS4 ported to work with it, or perhaps one of the projects like NataAmi or others.

I'd like to nominate this:

http://www.via.com.tw/en/initiatives/empowered/pc2500_mainboard/index.jsp

It's about $60 US with a 1.5 GHz processor.

Well I Think this things should be banded from any modern motherboard

1 Floppy drive connector
1 PS2 mouse port
1 PS2 keyboard port
1 LPT (parallel) port
1 COM (serial) port

As for the VIA chipset, all my PC's stuffed from some kind of VIA chipset bug, so no thanks.
(I did not notice any VIA chipset bugs on my AmigaOne-XE, and I don't know way, pure luck)

MicroATX
DDR2
PCI
SATA
Onboard LAN
USB2.0
Any PowerPC CPU from 800 mhz and up rally will do nicely.

True, but most processors in this price range are now days. I don't see any trends on the horizon that will change this. Port now, or port later...

Chipset bugs, or driver bugs? VIA's drivers aren't very good, from what I hear.

From VIA (snippet from a much larger bit of info):
Quote:
But this workaround was specific to the behavior of VIA's PCI controller chip. Other PCI controllers didn't cause the problem, and the design of their PCI arbitration circuitry was undoubtedly the reason.

Of course we can again go the overpriced/underpowered cpu route....

I used to work for Zeos International, so I'm familiar with chipset bugs. Beware the RZ1000...

@AliveMOon

This computer is damn sexy, but it's x86 so it's more of a design idea than a HW spec

Look, in the situation we are into, anything OS4 powered would make me happy.

Sam looks nice. A A1 replica with its h/w bugs fixed would also be cool. I also like the power system that AInc announced although I understand that it wont come to life.

If I had to built my own machine, it would be ppc powered since OS4 is ppc native and the port to x86 cpus family would take a long time.

So, G5@1.5Ghz (single core), 1GB DDR2, a descent (~100 euros) ATI PCI-e GFX, sata for HDs and DVD-ROMs, mini itx form factor (I lack space in my bedroom :P), 4 ports usb 2.0, 4 pci slots.

I think the above are quite enough (hey, it could be cheap also :) ) plus they could come true if the legal status and ownership issues are solved!

Here's what I'd like to see. Thinking from a traditional desktop user perspective, which makes a PowerPC based platform somewhat unlikely to satisfy... But since we're for the moment restricted to PowerPC...

1. PA Semi 64bit CPU, for best performance and reasonable power consumption.
2. Fastest memory standard possible, limited by PA Semi support.
3. 100M or 1G ethernet, probably from PA Semi, or 100M from M1575 if not enough serdes on PA Semi for everything and/or as additional ports
4. PCI-Express expansion, from PA Semi
5. ULI M1575 southbridge chip (connected direct to PA Semi host via PCI-Express)
6. SATA from M1575
7. USB 2.0 ports from M1575
8. Azalia HD Audio from M1575 (Intel standard compatible I believe)
9. PCI32 (older parallel style like in AmigaOne/mediator) expansion from M1575
10. perhaps PS/2 keyboard/mouse ports from M1575
11. Parallel ATA/IDE from M1575
12. Support latest video connection standards, including DVI, HDMI modes with HDCP so we are capable of new media content, in addition to traditional VGA.

I don't have a use for Firewire, and that can be added via PCI or PCIe if anyone does want it.

Assembled to a motherboard standard format so you can buy a case without having to hack it. Ideally one would choose the smallest useful standard, which would satisfy compact users as well as those willing to go bigger casework.

I myself would love to see it in a laptop format so it's not tethered to a desk. Laptop would ideally have standard flash card reader supporet including the high-capacity variants of SD cards, built-in webcam/microphone, fingerprint scanner, DVI port (to include all VGA and HDMI support), and I'd leave out any PS/2 ports on a laptop. Also of course add Expresscard-54 slot, and whatever mini-PCI/Mini-PCI-Express slots there is room for internally. particularly one should be used for wireless networking module, and bluetooth would be nice internally.

@AliveMOon

Someone should just get Amiga OS4 to work on Powerbook G4 chipsets considering its CPU ranges between 886mhz-1.67Ghz, already has an imbedded Radeon 9700 GPU, expandable to 2Gbs of DDR2 RAM, has the most up to date ports OS4 can handle including DVI and the only thing that needs to be done to get it to work would be new firmware for its northbridge. And it is affordable by PPC standards with used ones usually going for $660 and mint as high as $1,300 USD.

Best of all, people can buy it ready made as either a laptop or micro-ATX like form factor aka Mac Mini. But this can only happen if Amiga.inc loses and Hyperion allows it.

Which makes it a perk. You all need to wake up and smell the coffee, it's not the 1990s any more. We need a multi-arch approach, which PPC can be a part of, but should never be the entire enviroment.

I'm all for X86, if we want amiga OS on a modern affordable system, it really has to be x86, in my opinion
