Speaking of Sound Cards. Is there a soundcard working on A1 which has S/P-DIF Optic out ?

The sound is quite ok I think. Can't really determine with this stereo and speakers unless I can switch between a really good card and this in realtime... There is a lot of noise on the AUX though, Sounds like it's picking up noise from the gfx card or something...

sounds like the quality is good enough for "home use" then.
One day, I will try Sigmatel in my A1, got one of the XE's with the chip, but as long I have PCI-slots left, I see no reason to remove my soundcard.

I have a micro with the sound it came with. This also gives off a stream of static whenever the machine is rebooted. Not for a OS reboot, but a full machine reboot creates a static noise until sometime after kickstart is loaded.

This sounds like something that uboot should be doing on startup - muting the sound.

There is a thread and a bug reporting system for uboot on amigans.net. Perhaps you could pop this in there for Rogue to look at? Link: uBoot thread

@Speedy

DaveAE made a driver for the ESI Juli@ card and it has optic out. But i havent tested the optic out so maybe someone else can answer if this works ?

For the driver just go to os4depot and search for envy24ht.

Ola.

I bump this topic instead of opening a new one.

Since I can't found any Sigmatel STAC9752T on the web, I've bought a Realtek ALC203. This chip is AC97 2.3 compliant, pin to pin compatible with the original Sigmatel, at the same voltage.
I've compared the two docs: thoses chips really looks to be 100% compatibles.
I've installed it on my AmigaOne and triple checked my work.

Unfortunately, I can't get any via686b soundmode in AHI prefs. When booting my AmigaOne, I hear the usual very short "clic" I allways had with any soundcard when it is initialised by AHI on boot.

Does the AHI AC97 driver check for the chip used, making my chip software incompatible? Or does the driver only initialise the VIA686B, not looking to the AC97 installed (making my Realtek not hardware compatible with the via686b)?

Is there any sofware able to show me the installed chipset? Or maybe I should try with Linux?

Many thanks.

Did you check with Costel Mincea to see if he still had any?

Regarding the driver, did you install this?

I could imagine that the Realtek chip works with the ALSA sound driver, if he uses the latest v2.6.18 kernel from amigaone-linux.sourceforge.net.

@Crisot

On OS4, there is no check which AC'97 codec is installed.

I've got a few, I think I saw them recently too. I'd got a bunch to mod boards with but only ever ended up doing a couple. Let me know if you want one.

@Crisot

Did you check if it's software compatible as well? I don't know if the registers and other software side things were all standardized like the pinout was.

@#6

Yes for sure I've seen thoses posts. I tryed Os4Depot drivers (5.7) and Os4 CD drivers (5.9) with no luck. Can't find any older drivers but I don't think this will solve the problem.

@Dave

Ok, so if I still don't have any mode in AHI prefs, maybe the VIA can't init this Realtek chipset. Maybe this chipset is hardware compatible, but not software.

@billt

Cool! Check PM Thanks.

Anyway that's really bad luck. I hear the sound init, but no audio mode If Billt got the original Sigmatel I won't spend more time with the Realtek, even if it is a bit better (better noise margin).

Thanks all!
