I agree with you ChrisH, infact the expansion board adds features as 1 usb 1.1 and 2 usb 2.0 that are not present on the original mb. |

So what? Because of three more usb ports I will have to pay? In case you don't know A) Newer versions of SAM (like mine) came with missing parts like fpga etc, which we payed, we could have been informed about that and get a a discount price when ordering! B) I had to buy a new monitor because of the bad quality of the dvi>vga . If not then I would not be in a position to use my SAM.. That was 240 euros extra!_________________

However, I don't see why an I/O *expansion* board should be free, since it (by definition) expands what the Sam440 can do (and which they did not advertise it as doing in the first place). Although for people with the VGA issue, perhaps they should provide it free, *if* it fixes that problem... |

I didn't say that would be free, I said that this expansion is being made clearly to earn more money. This should be from the beginning when you purchased the board, not after. Or if they don't plan for a backplate and they want to fill the other-half space of it. _________________

I don't think that holding back feature in order to charge more money later was one of the Sam440ep design goals. While it may not seem obvious there are benefits to having single height rear I/O.
A Sam440ep with soldered on Ram, no simm socket and an LVDS connector could form the basis for a tablet or laptop system capable of running OS4.x, having the standard double height rear I/O would scupper any such plans.

Why to pay for something, which would be there together with SAM440ep IMHO. |
Are you joking? Why it shoulb be included since Sam has all what is needed to works and more. DVI is better than old and sucky VGA. This thing is an expansion. The only reason you say so is because you whine._________________ ikir |

More???? Maybe you mean less! You know about all that missing parts of the SAM that nobody informed us and we payed. Because that backplate is called an expansion isn't really one. It's an add-on which shouldn't exist if ACube did there job from the first time correct. And if I have to whine about something is that I paid around 600 euros for a 667 SoC (almost 1 euro per MHz, lol), a M9 64 MB, 512@100Hz (!!!), 4 usb ports, a DVI and 4 SATA.. For a system that can't even run adequate Free Heros of Might and Magic 2 ...
edit: Oh, I forgot, in the price is included also a stereo jackLast edited by Cool_amigaN on 08-Feb-2009 at 07:46 PM.

| @Cool_amigaN After looking it up, Heroes of Might and Magic 2 appears to be a flat 2D game with simple sprites. As such I am quite sure a Sam440 is capable of running it, so it is more likely that the port of the Free version is not optimised yet. Indeed, the readme says "Free Heroes2 Engine is a pre-alpha version, many features are missing still" which certainly could mean that optimisations haven't been done yet, since even not all the features are yet done.
P.S. If you are really so unhappy with your Sam440, and are not prepared to give software developers (and ACube) time to sort out the little problems, then I am quite sure someone would be happy to buy it from you.... Last edited by ChrisH on 08-Feb-2009 at 07:55 PM.

I would sell it if you could point me out another hardware that is still being manufactured and could buy using the money that I will get back from selling my SAM. Or perhaps there is somebody out there which want to trade my SAM for a PEG II or an A1XE ? :P _________________

| Some good news! ACube promptly replied to my message suggesting they add a pass-through for J19 (the internal USB connectors) : Quote:
Hello,
There is already a passthrough for J19 as we thought about such situation. So there's no fear to have
Could you tell that on the thread where you mentioned it? Thanks.
