agreed. i've never quite understood the marketing strategy of hyperion. i've always figured that until recently -- the legal debacle -- they couldn't proceed normally. but that legal mumbo-jumbo was decided nearly a year ago.

i'd love to see more news come from hyperion, public announcements of future product strategy, etc., but it seems they're waiting until they have something more substantial in hand. or, er, well, that's just a guess of course.

one of the reasons i'm flying out to california is try and figure out "where this is going" so to speak. i know about timberwolf because rogue was kind enough to keep everyone informed on amigans.net -- but things on this site turn ugly when it comes to OS4. i don't know why, but they just do. both here and amiga.org, the fur sure flies on any thread remotely discussing OS4 or the dedicated OS4 hardware platforms.

i'm sure you didn't intend to troll or anything. the guys who do that are pretty blatant about it, and i wouldn't include you in that group.

i'm sure you'll get plenty of news post-amiwest. if steven doesn't post his usual well-written summary of goings-on at the show, i probably will.

in the mean time i suppose the only thing we can do is offer constructive suggestions to our friends at hyperion and ask them to keep the community a bit more in the loop on future plans. with a community as small as ours, it only makes sense.

So what? It's an OS4 related site what do you expect? As I said before it's like going on an Atari site and start posting stuff like this: "Atari was never as good as the Amiga" (which is true...)

but what kind of reaction would you expect? Amigans.net is for OS4, if you have other ideas in mind do NOT go there...simple

Your example quote is not the kind of thing Tomas is talking about I believe. I think Tomas is more talking about what should be considered healthy discussion of concerns of some type from people who *are* interested in OS4.

In the defense of Amigans.net though trolls have battered OS4 so much for so long that they are a bit hyper-sensitive and its hard to distinguish always if someone is asking something with good intention or bad.

Realize did raise a good point. A small community OS business model *should* rely on lots of communication and lots of easy to find information. Unfortunately OS4's unique history of very dedicated individuals bent on its destruction has made that a more difficult task.

I don´t think that such poll is relevant... if we want some colour, we can choose it.

However, I use brown colour (with White, Red and Black) in my New Year wish here on Amigaworld.net.

I can't wait an hour! I must know now!!!

Seriously, though, addressing the thread at large... Good news is always stored up for a big show like this. Remember last year's show? The legal settlement was reached in September, but Hyperion saved the announcement for AmiWest. Its the best way, since we all feel more connected to what's happening when we're at a show being told in person, or even just watching via webcam when something big is announced, than we would just reading about it on forums or news sites.

Now, just a word of advice to Trevor - have good news. Or a fast car standing by.

@fairlanefastback

I am quoting it again:
>>>>I would call it a fanboy site for the simple fact of how they moderate. They moderate away any comment that is slightly skeptical or isnt praising the OS4.x products

Which to me means that Tomas believes that amigans.net IS a fanboy site for the simple fact that, according to Tomas, there, over at amigans.net they moderate anything that goes against OS4 and its merits...

And my objection is that it is to be expected as it's a site that fosuses on OS4, but, at the same time, I have never seen the kind of reaction on amigans.net that it has been portraited in this thread.

What I have seen is mods over there recognising instantly people who go over there to take the p*ss which warrants the reaction Tomas is talking about.

Also why start attacking amigans.net all of a sudden? Why can't they just be? Why does it bother people so much that there is a popular site centred around OS4?
What is the reason behind this?

@fairlanefastback

Blue+Red = Pink
Blue+Red+Black = Dark Pink
Blue+Red+White = Light Pink
Blue+Red+Black+White = Purple

Brown is color composed of Red and Green.

I don't like this "colour" talk. It sounds almost political and in this background "brown" would be a real insult/shame if you're a German. So, if you really want to symbolize different fractions of Amiga Parties by colours then don't let brown be part of the Amiga community.

It would be best not to talk in any way like that as if Apartheid is part of the Amiga community at all. In the contrary, the notion of this community was once to stick together and live friendship, fun and to enjoy everything which is related to Amiga. We should aim to get there again.

Hiya,

I actually think it's a very good question and I was wondering about the same thing myself.

I think it's pretty obvious by now that the X1000 project is not going to plan which is obviously taking up most of their time. Also as others have said, they are probably keeping some good stuff quiet for AmiWest.

It's a shame things have been so quiet though with no major OS4 updates or interesting announcements for ages.

I'm not sure why pavlor brought up talk of colors and factions either nexus. But clearly the color that symbolizes purity (white) is probably not one anyone should be allowed to lay claim to if they are going to take talk in that direction.

I'm also guessing that if we took every nationality on the planet into account we'd have no colors left to use without "insulting/offending" somebody.
