Quote:
A-EON Technology is pleased to announce the new naming scheme for the AmigaONE models based on the Cyrus Plus motherboard. We asked the Amiga community to select their preference from a list of twelve optional naming schemes. We also asked every beta test member who joined the Cyrus Plus beta test team to select their preferred option. The votes poured in and from the very start it quickly developed into a two horse race with the frontrunners way ahead of the field. However, it remained neck and neck with the final result in doubt right up until the Cyrus Plus beta test vote.
It is fitting that it was the beta test team members who finally tipped the voting balance in favour of the eventual winner. As a result we are pleased to announce that the name for our new AmigaONE model is the: AmigaONE X5000. To distinguish the CPU variants, following an original Commodore tradition, models with the P5020 CPU will carry the /20 suffix, while those with the P5040 CPU will carry the /40 suffix. The corresponding name for the P3041 model is the AmigaONE X3500. |

| Don't like the naming scheme...
@amigakit
Any news about video hardware acceleration? More important than 3D, for me....

Please let us know as early as possible when we could pre-order these new beasts. And if possible, have complete system packages! Thanks guys.

It will be a long while yet before consumer systems are ready, there are drivers to be written and beta tested.
However, the AmigaONE X1000 is available now and there will be quite a few software releases for this during the course of 2014 :)

| @A-Eon & AmigaKit,
Like the naming scheme, as I thought it was the only logical choice of the 12 voted upon. Very glad that the letter "A" was not added to the "X" in any way, to make it different than the original X1000.
Good luck in bringing the new systems to market as quickly as possible, but please also keep looking for an entry level hardware solution that is lower in cost than the SAM440 & SAM460 boards, for those many users who don't want (or can't afford) to spend over $1,000 US Dollars for an AmigaOS4.x compatible system.
It would have to be some kind of "off-the-shelf" industry standard hardware solution, to keep the price that low, but if you keep looking long enough, I am hopeful that something can eventually be found. AmigaOS4.x needs the equivalent to what the A500 was back in the late 1980's.
Then maybe we can experience a real revival of AmigaOne users, from the remaining, or former Classic Amiga users. _________________ Amiga! The computer that inspired so many, to accomplish so much, but has ended up in the hands of . . . . . . . . . . |

I have to agree with you there, a low-cost entry level hardware.
The x3500 sounds good to me :) _________________

I think that low-cost entry-level hardware is something we all want - including A-Cube, A-Eon, Hyperion, AmigaKit..... everybody realises that we need more people using AmigaOS. It's a bit elusive though! Finding a machine that's cheap to design and produce, yet powerful enough to be useful is a very hard task. |

| @amigakit It is not really well supported when it does not even support hardware accelerated 3d or video overlay with vsync in fullscreen mode. And what about multicore support?? Something they bragged about long before x1000 was released?? Cant say it is supported well when you cant even use more than a single core. Last edited by Tomas on 09-Jan-2014 at 09:54 PM.

x86/x64 would have solved that issue.. We could have had a port ages ago if hypeiron wasnt so against x86 platform. Nothing is ever going to get better on the ppc platform. Instead now we have a underpowered system that costs several times more than a high end x86 system and yet is more comparable to a decade a old system than a modern one. |

Perhaps he was also referring to only OS4 beta running on the machine. The X1000 must be the longest AmigaOne machine to remain in beta and not have a fully usable AmigaOS. |
