The original thread has run its course and can be closed.

Here is what I wrote to AmigaKit today.

Quote:

Anyway, moderating issues at amiga.org did not start when you acquired that site. It got very bad when Bill P. was in charge but there was no point to challenge it because Bill P. was part of the problem. Now the ownership has changed and there is, or was, small chance to get it back to the right track.

Now I think amiga.org is incurable. Classic (or real Amiga users, as some call it) dont trust moderators and moderators dont want any´feedback from community users. Many if not most moderators at amiga.org want to support your business but they are doing it at community's expense.

My case was proof of that. KJMann banned me permanently because he feared I would "post bad things about the forum owners". Why should you have more protection than others? AmigaDave asserted my suspicion (talking about you and Trevor):

"I just hope that this community does not drive them away with unfounded criticism."

Moderators and some, if not many, community members are there to please you. They do not want to see you going away and take their actions accordingly. What might benefit you but not the community.

Unfortunately I can't express my thoughts better but like Andersen cried out, "Oh, he's nothing more than a human being!" (His mother tried to silence him by crying, "Have you gone mad, child?")

I thought moderation policies weren't going to change when the site was taken over by AmigaKit. Maybe that was just a lie. So are we allowed to speak openly and frankly here, or not?

If so, I don't get why itex was banned for saying his opinion. I disagree with much of what he says but I defend his right to say it.

If not, well, no point coming here anymore then I suppose, may as well just redirect the URL to amigakit.com and be done with it.

@Minuous

The thread entitled "Do not buy from AmigaKit" has reached 231 replies as I write this, and is still not locked. I think that tells you all you need to know.

As we all go through life, we run into some who hate us, some who become our friends. We learn that complaining about it changes nothing. Most of us learn to move on in life.

Both threads need to be locked.

I hope you consider this:
99% of the web is owned by someone...
99% of the site have rules...

This site is about "Amiga" stuff!

Not "free speech"

I see by your avatar you consider "CHE" important, I see that you claim to be from "freedom world"

This site and Amiga dot org do not need to be overthrown, there is no czar...

You have good computer knowledge, SHARE that, PLEASE.

@SACC-dude

Everythings has "rules". In a country you call them law, everything depends what is in the laws and how they are executed. You can have "laws" and a free population with democracy or the opposite. There was a certain atmosphere on amiga.org before and there is a certain atmosphere after the take over. The only group that was cheering were AmigaOS fans. If the new owners (executed by the moderators) want this then ok, nobody can do anything against it. I have given some ideas to Amigakit about what could improve the situation. If nothing changes it also answers my questions.

@OlafS25

I find this situation quite disturbing.

Its like the Motorola 68xxx is the flesh of Christ, and any other incarnations herecy.

I expect this level of fanacism from organized religion, not concerning computer hardware.

@Overflow

Fanatism for "free speech"? Yes I am guilty

I would say the same if someone would ban someone for saying "never use MorphOS" or similar. Why can people not just accept different opinions? Tolerance comes from latin and means suffer. It means also not hurting other people with bad jokes or similar because you know they react sensible to it.

The moderators openly write that they protect the interests of the owners (or what they think) that is not a good base for a neutral community site.

@OlafS25

There is "free speech" and then you got noise.

Im not talking about itix spesifically now, more in general over the months/years reading the different "amiga" forums.

@Overflow

That is what I meant with "Tolerance". Accepting there are different views and not always insisting on your view if you know that people react sensible.

But in this case it is about that a forum has completely changed after it was bought even though the new owners claimed different. You can easily see it on the new moderators, what is and how is discussed on a forum before and after the take over and who discussed back then and now and who was banned and for what.

The nice thing on the web is it is no problem to create a forum and the crowd can move on.

It is not about free speech, it is not about site rules: it is about people.

Che saw how badly some people was treated and wanted to do something about it. Communist revolution was not the best idea to help people but he wanted to do something.

I'm kind of confused now. Is this thing with Amiga.org/AmigaKit over or not?

I am sure you are. This thread is for general discussion about the moderator subject. I didnt want to continue this in the original thread because it had ran its course.

With "the moderator subject" being so intertwined with the closed thread I wasn't sure what the status was.

Also, what you intended this thread for and what others will use it for are too entirely different things. I want to be clear what is and isn't "on topic" in here.

@itix

What's the point in all this?
As a casual user, I come here to try to improve my Amiga knowledge and get help with hardware/software issues.

All I see when I'm here is constant bickering. I don't really care what is or isn't a 'real' Amiga and I don't really think a forum for an obscure, semi-defunct computer is the ideal place to mount a campaign for freedom of speech.

It's a little embarrassing really.
