Hello everyone :)
I have a problem connecting to irc with wookiechat on my X1000!
I get no ident response , and i can't connect to irc channels.
I havent installed Wookiechat ,I just run it from its icon.

Ident port needs to be port-forwarded over your network, otherwise the ident request cant enter

I don't have any such port forwarding on router and my x1k and SAM both connect to IRC with wookie without complaint.

Ages since I set it up, but if it has an installer usually it's a good idea to use it.

I getno ident response either, that doesn't stop me connecting.

What instructins do you get after the ident response? You might need to register a nick etc.

Hi thx for response ! Yes i have no problems connecting via my micro A1 😎 I might look at the installer script of wookiechat to see if it installs old mui classes on x1000 final , i guess it hasn't
been updated for a while !

Since sales of new X1000's have stopped, I assume you have bought your X1000 used from another user, is this true? I wonder how many X1000 owners have sold their X1000 to buy an X5000, or just sold their X1000 because they no longer believe in AmigaOS4.2 ever being finished and delivered for it?

I was gonna buy the X1000 from Alfkil (of QT Fame), but I'm lending the machine for now...
I still have an Amiga ONE Micro from 2004 i think , and it has been updated with OS4.1 Final :)

From what ive heard the X5000 is still coming out, and that is great news ,since it's , from my knowledge , the most powerful Amiga ever built

About 4.2 , why not enjoy 4.1 Final which is out now?

If you are just borrowing the X1000 from another user, why would you start a thread titled "Hello I just bought an X1000 and I get no ident response in wookiechat"? (Lending is when you own something and let someone else borrow it)

In any case, my previous post was not meant to be negative, as you took it, just a simple question. Although the part about possibly selling an X1000 because AmigaOS4.2 has not been released, (and does not appear to be even close to being finished this year, and maybe not even next year) I'll admit is a negative way to look at it.

I have seen the same when setting up a new bootable partition on my X1.
My memory is not great, but running the wookie installer is a good place to start.

@lylehaze Sorry for the thread bump but this isn't worth a new thread - I too have an X1000 (that I really bought!), and can't get WookieChat going. It does warn about "no ident response", but the real error I think is "gethostbyname() failed" - it tries that a few times before giving up. A PC on my network using IRC is working fine, so I don't think it is a router/network problem.

In Danish we use the same word for lending and borrowing. I'm sure Paladine meant "borrow".

That's kind of a technical error. I mean it's telling you an API function call that failed. Typical Amiga program error. No sugar coating an error so all people can understand

But given the nature of the error what IP address is it failing on and can you ping or reach it from a browser?

I just loaded up Wookie and here it connected okay. It's also been installed for years but I also tend to forget about it. For some reason my server list got corrupted along the way and still is but it still works somehow. I'm sure this is some Wookie error. I should check for an update. I'm running 2.12 from 2009.
