So, I just got AOS FE Classic setup with Amiga Forever, and then ran out the door going to work.

I realise I have to register with Hyperion to get Amiupdates, but how do we get online with AF?

Then there is the question of usable software.
I see that with the update to AOS4, the ram limitation is lifted, and to be honest, the few minutes I spent looking at AOS4 gave me a decent impression with regards to it being responsive enough for day to day usage.

Does the Enhancer package work fine under AOS classic/Amiga Forever?
I assume the Radeon drivers doesnt have much use, but there is a good list of other software that is of intrest.

zTools?

What other "must have" software is there that is usable under the new AOS 4FE Classic?

The new low cost Enhancer Software 1.2 Special Edition is the best option for OS4.1 Classic because it has the RadeonHD, CANDI and OpenGL ES 2.0 removed from it (hence the much lower price).

Download edition is available on AMIStore and the boxed product is available here:

First, upgrade WinUAE as the version supplied with AF is too old for some features.

It is advised to download Update 1 from the Hyperion´s page (AmiUpdate may extract these files to Ram disk and there may be not enough RAM for update).

To get online you need supported network card emulation (A2065/Z2, Realtek/PCI and uaenet.device), note you need to download drivers for these (except uaenet.device of course).

Current WinUAE supports host filesystem for easier file transfer.

If your display supports higher resolutions you may change default emulated GFX card (Picasso IV most probably) to UAEGFX (I use 1920x1080 16 bit right now).

As of Enhancer package - special edition is cheaper and without stuff unusable in WinUAE.

Now with 128 MB RAM limitation gone, nearly all OS4 software is available for our entertainment (except titles requiring compositing or 3D acceleration).

I use:
AmigaAMP (2, not 3 as newer version is much slower)
blender - UI is too slow to be useable without real 3D
FreeWheel (68k, for full mouse wheel support in all applications)
MuiMPlayer
MultiViewer
MysticView (68k picture viewer with OS4 render library and support for datatypes; I think still a little bit better than MultiViewer )
Odyssey - ultimate webbrowser (with JS turned off faster even than NetSurf)
PPaint - I recommend old 68k version (7.1) as native one has unresolved issue (support only for 2 MB Chip RAM for pictures)
qPDFview - powerful QT based PDF viewer
SketchBlock - powerful drawing application
SMTube - QT based application for downloading of YouTube videos
TvPaint - good old 68k paint application
WordNet - nice vocabulary, word explanation
XNet - RSS news reader

AmiCygnix applications (AbiWord, Gnumeric etc. for MS Office compatibility; use own screen WITHOUT double buffering for best speed)

There are also many games (eg. Jagged Alliance 2, Baldur´s Gate series or Warcraft 2 to name few replacement engines) and emulators.

Yes, zTools works fine.

Example on my Surface

Got the Book AmigaOS 4.1 Emulation, and it got a Epsilon Amiga Blog feel, with lots of screenshots and step by step explainations on how to configure AOS 4.1, and software to use.

It collects all the information you might or might not find when you desperatly search the internet for answers, and presents it to you, basically holding your hand thru it all.

Well worth the money
