| After years of active Amiga absence I forked out some money and got me a nice Amiga 600, complete with Kick 3.1, CF to IDE converter with a 4 GB-ish CF card with Workbench 3.1 installed. It also has a memory-board stuck in the trapdoor-expansion area to get the total Chip mem up to some 2 MB. No fast-mem.
I read about the Gotek floppy emulator and how it could help getting rid of the hazard called 3.5" floppies. So I got me one of those and tonight I got the pieces together: The Gotek-drive, a USB to Serial converter, some jumper-wires and... courage.
I flashed the Gotek with the Cortex Firmware 1.05a. Made sure it is on S0. Formatted two USB sticks (one USB 2.0 of 4 GB which I formatted to FAT, one USB3.0 of 32 GB which I formatted to FAT32). The USB 2 stick is a 'no-name' affair, the USB 3 stick is a SanDISK one.
Now, both the sticks I filled with the selector.adf and a couple of game adf's. And after all those words, the disappointment sunk in: Stuff don't work.
When I put in the USB 2 drive, turn on the Amiga, all I end up is with 3 dashes on the Gotek-display and the 'insert floppy' animation (I took out the CF card).
When I put in the USB 3 drive, turn on the Amiga, for a fraction of time the display of the Gotek shows 3 zeros, then... 3 dashes and .... the insert floppy animation.
I notice the green-led flashing shortly. The red-led on the mainboard flashes once, then remains off.
No joy. So, what is going wrong here? I double checked the cables, made sure the 'red' line of the floppy-ribbon goes from pin 1 on the motherboard to pin 1 on the Gotek.
So... where should I be looking to fix this? Is the Cortex/Gotek a compatible combination with high-capacity USB 3.0? Any input is appreciated.

Got a bit further. For a very short amount of time. Decided to flash the drive with an slightly older firmware, got into the boot-selector, selected the ADFs I wanted to use, did a save and restart.... and back to square 0.
It looks as if the modified selector.adf is corrupted after writing by the selection menu. When I replace the selector.adf on the USB-drive with the original one from Cortex, after a reboot the Amiga starts with the selection menu again. Only to fail when doing a 'save and restart'. Must be doing something horribly wrong but have no clue what. Last edited by Amiga_3k on 24-Aug-2017 at 10:36 PM.

Solved. Seems the Cortex didn't like the SanDisk USB 3.0. Got me a brand new SanDisk Cruzer USB 2.0, works like a charm. Will test with a set of new no-names today, will post results.

Glad you got it sorted. I was going to reply but I dont have any experience with these devices. So the best I could do was no better than searching online. I am surprised no one had any hints at what to do. Doesn't anyone used these new dongles with real Amigas anymore? Last edited by Hypex on 26-Aug-2017 at 05:28 PM.
